Wildscape, xeriscape, desertscape, water-wise, smartscape: whatever term you use, it's all Texan for resource conservation. As residents seek ways to conserve water, native plant wildscaping can be an important part of the mix, since studies show lawn care accounts for over 50 percent of a household's water usage.

The number of Texas hunting accidents in 2010 declined to the lowest since statistical records began in 1966, according to a new report by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The number of people injured in hunting accidents in Texas fell from 29 in 2009 to 25 in 2010, although fatalities increased from three to four during the same period.

A renewed commitment from longtime Texas conservation supporter Toyota will help make possible a wide range of public benefits for hunters and anglers, state park visitors, urban families, private land stewards and others who rely on Texas natural resources.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is recommending changes to next year’s hunting and fishing regulations. The department is seeking comment on these proposed changes to the state’s hunting and fishing regulations during a series of public hearings.

Fifteen Community Outdoors Outreach Program grants from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department totaling more than $629,000 will be helping thousands of Texas children explore and learn about the states’ cultural and natural resources.
