Crossbow Hog Hunt

Crossbow Hog Hunt
Summary:

Texas hunter takes care of business with his Barnett Jackal Crossbow.

Great night of hunting. The first group of hogs came in and I could not click my crossbow off of safety. Come to realize after I spooked the hogs that I didn't have the bolt all the in and set. After the hogs scattered from my noise the coon and deer started feeding.

The coon was only 12 yards away and his night vision scope was set at 25 yards. He missed.

Lastly, the last group of 9 hogs came into feed. Waited and waited and finally Nailed him.

Hog shot with bow a at 5 yards in front of the Bronco
Summary: Hunting Laguna Ranch near Laredo Texas March 14, 2002. I am in the back seat of a Ford Bronco II videoing the stalk and shot. The shot is only about 5 yards, and the pig is only about 5 yards in front of the Bronco. The shadow in the video is the hood of the Bronco, and after being shot the pig runs into the driver side tire. One heck of a night hunting.

Helicopter Wild Hog Eradication in Texas

Helicopter Wild Hog Eradication in Texas
Summary:

Very interesting job for the guys at Nueces Helicopters.  No offense to Nueces Helicopters, and I hope you guys make out well.   However, this seems like a very expensive way for the farmers to reduce the hog population, muchless control them long term.  The cost per individual hog eradication has to be very high.  I would think the farmers in the region would work with law enforcement and private citizens interested in hunting the hogs.  Law enforcement could provide background checks, and credit checks could be run by the farm bureau as part of an initial process to determine who they allow to hunt the hogs on their private land (responsible citizens only).   There are plenty of decent citizens like myself who are very responsible and would be happy to help the farmers for FREE, as well as doing other things, even catch thieves stealing diesel (another major farmer problem from time to time).  I find it really odd that the farmers are willing to pay a high price for such a sophisticated hog eradication method AND incur the EXTREME liability of just ONE stray bullet from a flying helicopter hitting someone a mile or more away.  A single accident like that could run well into the 10s to 100s of millions of dollars and take multiple farms under financially, not to mention the negative publicity.  It seems like hunters on the ground could be turned into a small profit for the farmers and totally avoid the liabilities.  Also, the pigs are about the smartest wild animals in North America.  Soon they are likely to figure out that the wirily-bird means death.  They very well may learn to stay in cover during the day and then be in the corn and other crops at night rendering the chopper method useless.

This Guy Has a Pretty Good Spot

This Guy Has a Pretty Good Spot
Summary:

Here's a video of an 11-pointer eating crabapples in the day time, and another of the same deer eating at the same place at night...if he's hitting it that often its time to get a stand set-up!  I think this was taken in Pennsylvania.

Pretty crafty deer - either he doesn't like the camera or he's old enough to know not to stay in one spot for very long.  And, a 3.5 or 4.5 YO deer is OLD in PA.
