Axis Buck

Axis Buck
Summary:

Shot this free-range Axis last Monday night south of Junction.  His horns were about 31" long and he was one old coot, to the point where his coat was turning lighter.

Wish I had some better pictures but it was raining/misting and the wind was up.

John's First Buck

John's First Buck
Summary:

We just got back from Schleicher County today with the rut in full swing.  My youngest son John took this 8 pt, his first deer ever, Tuesday night on a low fence ranch we've been invited to hunt on for over the last 6 years or so.  Mr. Buck was chasing a doe and stopped just a second too long.  We aged him 4.5 YO, others think he might be 5.5 YO.

Considering the drought going on down there we were thankful just to get a opportunity to take a deer this year...imagine the heart thumping when this one showed-up.  As they say in ETX, this boy is RUINT!

Zeke Gossett Wins Alabama Sports Festival Tournament

Zeke Gossett Wins Alabama Sports Festival Tournament
Summary:

Zeke Gossett won the Alabama Sports Festival Tournament again! That is two in a row!

Zeke used Vicious Pro Elite Fluorocarbon in some of the nastiest off shore structure I have ever witnessed to catch 4 of the five fish he weighed in, but the key fish was caught on 8Lb Vicious Ultimate. This fish weighed 4Lbs. exactly (big fish of the tournament) and was caught under a pier. Zeke skipped his worm so far back under the pier, he had to fight the fish around 4 pier posts before he was able to land the toad. It was a true testament to how well both lines performed.

Zeke was the overall winner of the tournament! He fished in the 14 and under but he also beat the 19 and under champion. He also teamed up with another young man and won the 19 and under team championship. I am not sure you are aware that Zeke was asked to open up the games on Friday night. He was the last one to hold the torch to open the games. It was a really neat, once in a lifetime event.

After the opening ceremony Zeke was one of the honored guest in a VIP reception. Some of the other honored guests were Lee Greenwood, and Richard Marcinko (this gentleman started the Navy Seal Team that killed Osama Bin Laden).

Check out Zeke with two of his fish he caught!

Sharkathon 2010

Sharkathon 2010
Summary:

Oct. 1-3 Padre Island National Seashore (P.I.N.S)

I entered the red fish division and my two buddies were goin for sharks.

We started off friday morning around 7:30am chasing bait balls on the way to find our spot. After catching a ton of skip jack We finally set up camp and started some serious fishing. From 5:00 - 8:00 we were hookin the reds pretty good.

That night we were working in shifts to watch the shark reels. My shift started at 4:30am, which coincidentally was the EXACT same time that I poured my first Jim Beam and Coke. (What can I say? I was bored!!) 4 hours, and a few drinks later, everyone else started waking up... and I stumbled to the tent to take a "nap". Needless to say, I spent most of saturday afternoon with a massive headache and I didnt get much fishing done until late afternoon.

None of us took home a prize but I can honestly say that it was a great trip and you can bet your ass I'll be back next year!!
