Summary:
oh i was using 1/16 oz blue/white jigs 1 to 2 foot under a slip bobber in the creek at Scotts Ridge. there would be folks there all day with minnows and only have a few, then id show up after work with my jigs and just ware them out on nearly every cast. for every one i caught id miss 4 or 5 atleast. those people would ask what i was using and id show them but when i saw them again they were still using minnows and get mad when i start pulling them in. had one guy in a boat cuss me out cause hed been there for 2 hrs and not a strike. i showed up and started jiggin around his boat and caught 6 within 5 min. he started cussin me and roared his boat out of there and then i caught 4 more laughing at him. but anyway, when it gets dark they go to hiting minnows. hope this helps??? New tankSummary:
Before you put bass in there, I would buy some minnows and start letting them reproduce. During the summer, my dad and I will go to the local creeks and load up on perch. There's times where we will come home with 50+ and other times with 20 if we are lucky. Also think about vegetation/cover for your bait fish. Weeds are great but I also love having a round bale or two in our tank. Don't overload it with bass either, you'll have quantity but the quality won't be very good. IMO, you can never have too many bait fish. Good Luck langtry tx.Summary:
Depending on which direction you go the country is eather brushy or open. Lots of deer though/some nice ones also. Back when I was young (and dumb), we would CARRY our gear down the canyon to the river---boat, motor and all. we would go up the lake to the river and spend 4-5 days fishin. Great catfishin and in february during the white bass run, you could catch them by the thousands. The Rio Grande is muddy for most of the year, but in february it can be clear as a bell. I have seen whites in schools that were as thick as minnows in a fish tank. OH---WE had to carry our gear back up the canyon when we left. I am FAR to old for that now.Lots of luck to you . Canyon Lake & Upper Guadalupe RiverSummary:
The river is clear/clearing from the 281 bridge all the way to about 3 miles above the mouth at the lake. That 3 mile stretch is only murky, but it's enough to keep the bite shut off because fish in the Guadalupe and lake are sight feeders by nature. They want to be able to see what they're attacking. Fishing from a canoe you'll want to go small (lures) & light (spinning tackle and 6-8 lb.line). In line spinners, small balsa poppers, 1/16 - 1/8 oz. Road Runners with white or chartreuse plastic or hair bodies. You'll catch some largemouth and spotted/Guadalupe bass; crappie, whites and LOT'S of bream. Live crickets, worms & minnows will work if you feel like fooling w/those. I'll be writing & posting my reports later today or tomorrow. So check back here before you go. Stop at FISHERMAN'S CORNER, FM 306 at Potter's Creek road. The have all the live bait, largest selection of quality lures and best prices of any dealer or big brick & motor stores. I have a trip there at Canyon tomorrow so if you're out that way ckeck at the store to see if I'm around. JF Bill Muntz and Father with 37 Crappie out of Lake Belton, Temple, TX
