On Monday, March 30, the House Public Safety Committee will consider House Bill 1893, legislation sponsored by State Representative Joe Driver (R-113) that would allow valid Concealed Handgun Licensees to protect themselves on Texas college and university campuses.

On Wednesday, in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, 65 Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Congressman Mike Ross (D-Ark.), expressed their opposition to the reinstatement of the failed 1994 ban on semi-automatic firearms and ammunition magazines. 

On Tuesday, March 17, the Senate Criminal Justice Committee will consider Senate Bill 730 sponsored by State Senator Glenn Hegar (R-18). 

Thirty-one members of the Texas House have signed onto House Bill 1301, introduced by State Representative Stephen Frost (D).  This bill would allow employees to transport and store firearms in their locked cars and trucks while parked at work.  Please click here to see the list of which State Representatives have added their names in support of HB 1301. 

House Bill 267, sponsored by State Representative Dennis Bonnen (R-25), would allow Texans to purchase rifles and shotgun in non-contiguous states. 

On Wednesday, February 25, just over five weeks after Inauguration Day, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the Obama Administration will seek to reinstate the expired federal "assault weapon" ban and impose additional restrictions. 

Last week we reported to you that State Senator Glenn Hegar (R-Katy) had introduced Senate Bill 730, NRA-backed legislation allowing employees to store legally-owned firearms in their locked, private motor vehicles while parked at work.  This week, State Representative Stephen Frost (D- Atlanta) filed House Bill 1301, the House companion bill to SB 730!

As we reported last week, legislation to require a federal license to possess any detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifle or shotgun, or any handgun, has been introduced in Congress. Bills to re-impose the federal "assault weapon" and "large" magazine ban, or to impose a much broader ban, have been introduced in Congress since 2003, and will likely be introduced in the current Congress soon.
