Summary:

Kevin,

I'd say 3.5 YO.  I know you're concerned about the lease next to you, and I don't know how big your lease is, but this buck will be a good one if you can let him go a couple more years.

Sometimes these choices can be pretty tough.  I've had it happen to me several times where I let a buck pass to let him grow and never see it again.  But, that's the only way they're going to get big.

Where Will You Be Hunting This Weekend?

Summary:

I won't get a chance to go before Thanksgiving...gotta work for a living.

Hate to hear your year's been tough William.  Unfortunately its been a booger of a year for a number of people...hope it improves for you.  The weather by your old lease by Sonora has been dry as a bone, so the hunting isn't going to be too good this year anyway.  We're going, but really don't expect much.

Steve, I've been to Brady many times, and the deer out there can be thick as flies.  Its also the place where I saw the biggest buck I've ever seen on the hoof about 5 miles north of there on Hwy 283.  The rut ought to be pretty close on Thanksgiving...you never know what you'll see!

High Fence & Preditors

Summary:

i have been hunting in the same spot for a couple years on about 500 acres, last year next to are lease they started putting up a high fence right at the beginning of bow season and completed by gun season. we where dreading the gun hunt season thinking they locked up all the deer, but susprising we saw more deer than usuall. the deer turn the high fence into a road path to follow, we saw deer walking the fence ever time we pulled into the pasture. so for us its enhanced our huntting by watching them walk the fence, then coming into are feeders.

1969

Summary:

I was 18 in 1969. Oh and we had a family deer lease near sheffield Texas-----Year round hunting and fishing (About 15miles of Pecos River) 21 sections to hunt at the staggering cost of $37.75 per family per year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How times have changed. At that time us kids would go for the weekend by our selves and never see anyone else. Not the same anymore.   SAD

can you hunt public land year round??

Summary: The booklet is online as well but it seems that all the sites have very specific limitations. My question is, is this land available to hunt Varmint any time with any legal firearms or is it restricted to specific times and firearms. I am trying to decide if buying a pass is worthwhile as I only have a .22 and am more interested in getting away and fishing more than anything. Does any one have any information on something like this or know anyone with some private land that might be interested in a short term lease? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
