Using flour to attract hogs

Summary: I am always looking for new creative ways to improve my hunting and fishing success.  Recently, I read a story about hunters that use regular store bought flour to attract hogs to the feeders and traps.  It makes sense because flour is a type of grain that I could see pigs enjoying.  But, what I al...

Where's the bacon???

Summary: This year it seems like the hogs and deer just aren't moving much at our hunting properties.  Last year there was plenty of opportunity to harvest nice pigs over 200lbs and some good deer shot.  There are signs of hog and deer activity, but very little and when we put up a trail cam to take photos,...

Split season dove hunting

Summary: As we were spending time at the ranch trying to harvest a nice buck or good eating hog, the second split season for dove was going on and man could I hear the neighbors just tearing them up.  After we got out of the blind and walking back to the truck I could see huge flocks of whitewings and morni...

Hunting on the Atascosa River

Summary: Just got done setting up a brand new blind and feeder on a small ranch between Devin and Jordanton called "Rancho Guerrero".  This is a small piece of property that my wife's uncle and Edroy Postmaster takes care of for his father-in-law and has not been hunted for several years.  We are excited ab...

Summer Hogs

Summary:

Hogs will lay up all day in a cool wet area then move and feed at night, if you want to increase your chances of seeing hogs late in the evening before it's gets dark, find the cool wet places where they may be bedding down during the day and bait the area with flour / corn or anything that might keep them hanging around.  try using a hog pipe and set up a trail cam to find out exactly what time they are hitting the hog pipe, if it's strictly at night then get you a Destroyer Hawg light and shoot some pork at night.

!!!!! HOG PANELS !!!!!!!

Summary:

Those should work, we use 4x8 though and no hogs get through

Hog meat tenderizer

Summary:

It all starts with how you treat the meat after a kill, we like to soak our hogs or deer in ice water with a little bit of vinegar, then if I grill deer or wild boar I like to marinate in Italian dressing for at least 4-6 hours or best if over night.  Milk also works good to marinate or any type of fruit juice, pinnaple, etc..  We like to also take our wild game to a meat processor to get processed into steaks, pork chops, roast, etc and the meat usaully comes back to us in great condition.  I recomend purchasing a wild game cook book and try different recipes and see which one works good for you to cook and eat the wild game while still tender and moist.

New and Need Hog Hunting Help

Summary:

My advice would be to set up just a hanging feeder or a hog pipe with some sort of light, either solar powered or other means, but be prepared to have better success in the evening or after dark.  Corn works good in the hog pipe with some diseal mixed in, you can also find fresh rooting areas and bury diseal corn in 2-3ft holes with a post hole digger, but give the bait at least 3-5 days to work, the hogs have to stumble across the bait then hope to attract them back after more bait is set out.  Best tactic is to place a trail cam on the bait to photo what and when is hitting the bait, then hunt at the time they are hitting!!!
