Professional and recreational sport shooters in the Kerrville, Waco and San Antonio areas will benefit from the $240,000 in matching grants that their local target range facilities will receive to continue previously funded construction and renovation projects. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved the target range grants during its Aug. 27 public meeting in Fort Worth.

Nearly half of the sites in the Texas State Parks system will conduct public hunts during the 2009-2010 hunting season. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved scheduled hunts on 44 state park units at its May 28 public hearing.

The ability to manage land in difficult times, through extended dry periods and economic downturns, is the hallmark of a good land steward. This year’s recipients of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Lone Star Land Steward Awards are prime examples.

The Sporting Clays Mobile Range provides shooting opportunities for youth, women, gun clubs and ranges. The unit may be scheduled for public or some private events, but must be scheduled a year in advance.
