U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), to allow Amtrak travelers to transport firearms in checked baggage where checked baggage service is available.  The Wicker amendment was included along with several government agencies' appropriations bills in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2010.

In another transparent attempt to undercut the Second Amendment fresh on the heels of his hidden-camera attack on gun shows, Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, has alleged that the multiple murders that took place on Ft. Hood recently could have been prevented by changes in federal gun laws. 

As a critical Second Amendment case goes before the United States Supreme Court, U.S. Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) and Jon Tester (D-MT), and Congressmen Mike Ross (D-AR) and Mark Souder (R-IN) are gathering signatures for an amicus curiae (“friend of the court”) brief by Members of Congress.

The case will address the application of the Second Amendment to the states through either the Due Process clause or the Privileges or Immunities clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.  The case has major implications for the legality of restrictive gun laws not only in Chicago, but also in other cities and the states across the nation.

With each election, Americans go to the polls and make decisions that affect -- for better or worse -- the future of freedom in America.  Far too many gun owners and hunters are among them.  And every year, millions of teenagers turn 18, thus becoming eligible to register and vote. 

The U.S. House of Representatives adjourned on July 31--and the U.S. Senate will adjourn next week--to start the Summer District Work Period.  Both bodies will return after Labor Day.  During this Summer District Work Period, your Senators and Representative will be back home in their states and districts. 

Let's just say it didn't exactly catch anyone at NRA off-guard, when earlier this week Brady Campaign and Violence Policy Center (VPC) raised superficial, misleading arguments in an effort to derail the Thune-Vitter Right-to-Carry permit reciprocity amendment. 

Now is the time for Congress to recognize that the right to self-defense does not end at state lines.  Under the Thune-Vitter amendment, an individual who has met the requirements for a carry permit, or who is otherwise allowed by his home state's state law to carry a firearm, would be authorized to carry a firearm for protection in any other state that issues such permits, subject to the laws of the state in which the firearm is carried.
