Governor Rick Perry has signed Senate Bill 321 into law!  This NRA-backed bill authored by state Senator Glenn Hegar (R-Katy) and state Representative Tim Kleinschmidt (R-Lexington) prohibits employers from enacting and enforcing bans on employees transporting and storing firearms in their locked, private motor vehicles while parked at work.  The act will take effect on September 1, 2011.  Click here to view a copy of NRA-ILA's press release on this topic.

This past week, the Texas House and Senate approved the conference committee report on Senate Bill 321.  This NRA-backed employee protection/parking lot legislation was sponsored by state Senator Glenn Hegar (R-Katy) and state Representative Tim Kleinschmidt (R-Lexington). 

the Texas House passed Senate Bill 321, NRA-backed employee protection/parking lot legislation sponsored by state Senator Glenn Hegar (R-Katy) and state Representative Tim Kleinschmidt (R-Lexington), by a 117-29 vote.  SB 321, substituted in House Bill 681 on the House floor since it had already passed the Senate, would prevent employers from enacting and enforcing policies to prohibit employees from storing firearms in their locked, private motor vehicles while parked at work. 

House Bill 681, sponsored by state Representative Tim Kleinschmidt (R-Lexington), had been set on Monday's House Calendar for consideration.  But as is sometimes the case, especially during the last few weeks of session, the House did not complete work on all the bills slated for action today.  So all measures on today's calendar that were not taken up, including HB 681, will carry over to tomorrow.

With the 2010 midterm elections just around the corner, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) - the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry - is encouraging all sportsmen, hunters and gun owners to register to vote and visit the NSSF Voter Education Web page to educate themselves on the candidates running for office.
