National Guard FLW College Fishing is headed to Lake Amistad Feb. 4 for the first of four stops in the South Conference. Forty college teams will be competing for a top award of $5,000 and a berth in the South Regional Championship tournament.

The Lamar University team of Matt Morrison and Danny Iles won the National Guard FLW College Fishing Texas Division event on Choke Canyon Saturday with five bass weighing 15 pounds, 1 ounce. The victory earned the team $10,000 to be split between the university and the university's bass fishing club - $7,500 for the bass club and $2,500 for their school. The win also helped them advance to the Texas Division Regional Championship.

Ducks Unlimited recently began restoration work supported by a North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) grant to enhance 6,841 acres of wetland habitat along the Texas coast. Partners contributed more than $2.8 million to match the $1 million received from the federal grant.
