HOG ON THE RUN! HOG ON THE RUN!!

The first wild hog in this hog hunting video is an absolute BEAST.  It took me a second of looking at it under the feeder to realize it wasn't a cow!  Anyway, some really great video of a couple of Crowell, Texas hunters trying to take him down while what sounds like grandfather narrating from a somewhat safe distance. (the pig starts to run toward him a bit and they continue to take shots!!)

First time flats fishing in Florida for family vacation. Say that 10x real fast.

I don't know the facts behind this video clip. I have been told it was a "canned" hunt in Africa. It went wrong. Lucky no one was seriously injured and the Guide saved the day.

This is already the best hunting season so far and I haven't even taken a deer.  We make our annual family hunting trip every year after Christmas through New Years.  This year I played guide to my wife taking her first deer ever and to my oldest daughter 15 years old taking her second Old Mexico Whitetail.  They made we work hard between them not wanting to get up early and being lazy otherwise we could have gotten this done quicker than we did.  We were able to close the deal on the last day with my wife in the morning taking a 142 9 Point, and my daughter taking a 135 ten point 15 minutes in to the afternoon hunt.  It turned out to be a family affair with my wife and the two youngest sitting in the truck watching while we tried one last time to get this deer she had been chasing all week.  The disappointment was rising the closer we got to the end of the hunt, only to lead to more excitement as we took it down to the wire.  Due to school and sports she wouldn't have the opportunity to get back down and hunt before the season's end.  What a way to start off the new year!  I couldn't be happier.

This is my for years anti-hunting wife that somewhere out of the blue decided she wanted to take a deer!  At that point I decided that if she was willing to step that far out of the box and her comfort zone then she could take whatever deer she wanted.  After all it's her money too that I spend so much of year in and year out.  I was far more nervous guiding her on her first ever whitetail then being the shooter myself.  It was like taking my first deer all over again!  Very exciting and I couldn't be happier!!!

640 kids between the ages of 8 and 18, with families and friends watching, competed in several sports, including International Skeet, American Skeet and Trap. Biased by my 6th generation connection to Houston County, I was also there to cheer for my cousins, Katelyn and John Lenderman.

There are for divisions:
Junior (ages 8-11)
Intermediate (ages 12-13)
Seniors 1 (ages 14-15)
Seniors 2 (ages 16-18)

The day we arrived, my cousin Katelynn won 1st Place, International Skeet, Seniors 2 Division. Last year she came home with 5 2nd Place trophies and this year she had one goal - win 1st Place in something. Mission accomplished.

For those that do not know, (including me) I was told that International Skeet is an Olympic Sport. It differs from American Skeet in several ways:

The clay targets (called pigeons or birds) travel much faster than American Skeet (I don't know how fast but it was hard to see them fly by).

The clay targets are launched at random angles and at random elevation, where as American is not random. (Anyone who knows better should feel free to comment!)

My understanding of American Skeet is that they shoot 25 shots from the "high house" and "low house" from 8 different positions called stations.

Seniors 1 and 2 shoot a total of 100 shots and highest score wins. The other divisions shoot 75 shots. Ties are broke by a "sudden death" shoot off where the first person to miss looses.

Beyond some shaky camera work and a funny accent that isn't from Texas (ha!) enjoy the deer hunting adventures of a couple of young hunters from Michigan down hunting whitetail deer in Texas for the very first time.  A couple of really excited kids!  Great to hunt with the family.

Great first deer hunt for this 5 month pregnant huntress in Rockwall.  Merry Christmas to all!

Texas deer hunt near Weatherford, Texas.  Just as the sun begins to go down this young hunter uses his Mauser 30-06 with a nikon monarch scope to bring home his first Texas buck and a nice litte 8 point at that.
