The link that Hank posted is awesome for learning your waterfowl ID! Also, if the wind is out of the North, set up on the north side, the ducks like to land going into the wind, and where they are out of the wind for the most part. That way you can get some face to face shots at em. Sounds like you guys did great for your first time out! You will only learn more and get better from here on out, good luck.
