Hog Growling?Summary:
I have been hunting in texas for 32 years and pigs can sound mean. The first time I heard a growl it made the hair on the back of my neck stand. (I was 12 years old) Now I just stick them with an arrow. (With plenty of RAGE) P.S don't waste your money on those hog attractants, waste of money. Mix deer corn with some cheap beer in five gallon bucket, let ferment and serve. Happy hunting. New and Need Hog Hunting HelpSummary:
I hunt a 680 acre place in Freestone county. When we first started there we found 3 spots (there are only 2 hunters) where hogs had a trail they used regular. We baited near those trails with corn and diesel to feel them out. We buried this mixture 3' deep, mixed with dirt and packed, at each spot and scattered some on the surface from the trails to the buried spots. It took a couple of days, but the next weekend we found holes 3' deep at each location. We continued this for several weeks and had the same results even though we had several kills each week. I then picked one of the spots and put up a feeder and 150 yds from that I put an open stand 8' high. Each time I go I scatter more diesel/corn mix on the surface, and in 2 years there have been very few times I have gone home empty. The other 2 spots have no feeder and we have to redo the baiting each time. It usually takes a day for the hogs to find it, but they keep coming back to check it out. As an added attraction, I put a 3' piece of PVC pipe with a few holes anchored to a t-post about 10 yards from the feeder. The hogs first got the caps off the end, and we had to put self tapping screws on them. And then they were able to force the knots loose in the ropes. So we looped a cable through a hole in the cap with cable clamps on the inside of the caps. This has worked well. You will have to empty the pipes occasionally when the corn gets moldy from getting wet before all the corn is eaten. My game camera tells us that more than one group will come almost every night, at different times, from dark to early morning. I've tried to stay awake all night so I could get more kills, but after I have 2 or 3 on the ground I'm not quite as excited to keep awake and I quit. We have dropped as many as 9 in one weekend. That time 7 of them were over 150 lbs. I hope this helps get you started. Good luck and hunt safe. 20 results found Next Page >Showing results 1 through 10
