The Association of Collegiate Anglers has opened registration for the 2012 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship, historically the nation's largest collegiate bass fishing competition.

Eighteen teams featuring some of the top pros in the sport are competing in the PAA's season-opening event. The full field will compete all three days, with more than $100,000 in cash and prizes at stake, including a Nitro Z-8 with a Mercury 225 Optimax and T-H Marine Atlas jackplate, Nitro Z-7 with a Mercury Pro XS, and MinnKota Talon shallow water anchors for the big bass winners. Also at stake are points toward the PAA Angler of the Year title and qualification for the Toyota Texas Bass Classic world championship in September on Lake Conroe.

Dates for the highly-anticipated return of the Toyota Texas Bass Classic (TTBC), the world championship of professional bass fishing and country music festival, were announced today with all of the action set to begin Friday, Sept. 28.

The field of competitors for the 2012 Bassmaster Elite Series, announced by B.A.S.S. today, promises to be the strongest ever. Among the 100 professional anglers are winners of more than 200 Bassmaster tournaments, 17 Bassmaster Classic championships and 21 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler-of-the-Year titles.

National Guard FLW College Fishing is headed to Lake Somerville Oct. 13-15 for the Texas Regional Championship which is being hosted by Texas A&M University. Twenty college teams will be competing for a top award of $50,000 to be split between the school and bass fishing club;

Chris Logan, of Cat Spring, Texas, and Emil Reznicek, of Sealy, Texas, weighed in a two-redfish limit that totaled 16.69 pounds to win the IFA Redfish Tour event at Corpus Christi, Texas, on September 3.

Anglers from the University of Arkansas and the University of Texas at Tyler will face off later this week on Texas' famed Choke Canyon Reservoir in an exclusive, expense-paid trip made possible through their participation in the Ranger Cup University program.

We're into the final stretch for anglers to qualify for this year's Toyota Texas Bass Classic on Lake Conroe October 28-30, and it's going to be a showdown on all three tours.

John Weaver, of Driftwood, Texas, and John Weaver Jr., of San Marcos, Texas, weighed in a two-redfish limit that totaled 17.14 pounds to win the IFA Redfish Tour event at Rockport, Texas, on May 14. To win the event, which operated out of Cove Harbor North, the team topped a large field of two-angler teams to take home a new, fully rigged Ranger Banshee Extreme powered by a 60-horsepower, four-stroke Yamaha outboard and equipped with a Power-Pole shallow water anchor, Minn Kota trolling motor, Humminbird electronics, Blue Point Fabrication metal work, Bob's four-inch Ultra Light Jackplate, an OPTIMA battery and a Loadmaster trailer valued at $30,000.

Tournament organizers announced that 191 teams representing 380 collegiate anglers are registered to compete in the 2011 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship. Because the field size for the event is capped at 300 anglers, a waiting list has been created to identify which anglers will fill the spots left vacant by registered anglers who are unable to make the trip.
