Inability to access lands and waters – whether public or privately owned – is the No. 1 reason why sportsmen stop hunting and fishing. That’s why the TRCP and our partners worked to include a sportsmen-designed program in the 2008 Farm Bill that incentivizes farmers and ranchers to make their lands publicly accessible for fish and wildlife dependent recreation.

On Thursday, Jan. 27, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives released a Study on the Importability of Certain Shotguns, which proposes that “military shotguns, or shotguns with common military features that are unsuitable for traditional shotgun sports” be prohibited from importation. This would apply to all shotguns—not just semi-automatics.  As in previous “working group” studies on rifles, the study fails to give proper credit to the widespread use of these guns in newer shooting sports, or to their adaptability to hunting.

On August 23, 2010, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was petitioned by the Center for Biological Diversity and four other organizations to ban all lead in fishing tackle under the Toxic Substances Control Act. This includes sinkers, jigs, weighted fly line, and components that contain lead such as brass and ballast in a wide variety of lures, including spinners, stick baits and more.  It is important that industry members send comments now!
