If he is willing and enjoys (like so many labs do) then it isn't too late, I don't think. I started training my lab when she was 2 1/2 (when I got her) and she is just a natural - the first hunt we went on, I downed a diver duck - she put her whole head in the water to retrieve it. That is something that just can't be taught. When she sees the guns come out she is at the door wagging her tail. I've got to where I don't want to deer hunt as much because I have to leave her behind.
Great TX hog hunt!
Summary:
Forgot to mention - good loookin hogs you got. Man I wish my wife would go hunting with me........... About three years ago I stopped at a service station / 7-11 in Katy on the way to my duck lease at about 5 AM. A guy in a pickup pulled up beside me. He had his wife and son in the cab. She was a good looking blonde, her hair was all tied up in a bun and she even had makeup on. In the bed of the pickup truck was a lab and about five dozen decoys........ I got back in my truck thinking "some guys have all the luck"............ Someone say TURKEY?Summary:
Man - those are great rates for a three day hog / turkey hunt! One of the neat things about hunting in this state is the opportunity to do a combo hunt - I have done hog / turkey; dove / coyote; hog / coyote and deer / just about anything that moves (so long as its legal) in the past three or so years! I hear that in Mexico there is the chance to do a dove / duck hunt on the same day for pretty reasonable rates as well. duck hunt - mounted birdsSummary:
I think that's why I have them mounted, BB - the memories of the hunt are usually pretty good. Looking back, my friends and I laugh about the cold weather, the wind and the rain. The duck hunting makes up for all that. If you ever have a chance to hunt the barrier islands along the gulf coast, its well worth the time - even if the ducks aren't flying it is a great experience. Dove Decoys?????Summary:
Allen - I didn't know anything about dove decoys when I bought them so I bought some of the foam ones that were about $12 or so and some of the hard shell that were a bit more - they weren't near as expensive as duck deacs. Like I told you in a previous post, have yet to try them out but plan on using them this year in Dilley. Buck photos from last deer season-looking forward to 2003!Summary:
Hey BB: I had the same problem with my turkey photos this past spring. Took them with a digital camera and they were too big to post. Ended up sending one of them to Allen the webmaster who posted it for me. Do Nob - that is one killer boat you have there. Where do you have it? Could almost use it as a duck blind! what was your most memorable / best hunt ever????Summary: Just a thought to start a good thread about your best hunt ever. Here's mine: I took my son duck hunting in SE Arkansas about 9 years ago. He was 14 and had not shown much interest in hunting until then. He finally showed some interest in going duck hunting. We went through gun safety issues u...
Has anyone heard how duck season will be this year?Summary:
Just got my issue of Field and Stream and DoNob is right on according to them. It all comes down to weather. Sounds like pintails are kind of thin again this year. (When I was in Rockport this past winter, we saw a bunch of them but couln't shoot them - out of season at that time and the limit was only one anyway.) Man, if I get them time and the money this fall, I'm heading to SE Arkansas for some serious greenhead hunting. The quackers always fly into Arkansas! 47 results found Next Page >Showing results 1 through 10
