Sort your results:Existing Search Criteria:Refine Your Search:Search Results:Looking for goose/duck guide - driving distance from Dallas areaSummary: First of all, welcome to the board, Lakergrad. You had talked about a reasonable distance from DFW - do you consider the Houston / Katy / Eagle Lake area as reasonable (abou 4 hours drive)? If so, there is a lot going on down here. Suggest you get in touch with Larry Gore at Eagle Lake Outfitters in Katy. There are other good ones as well.
Good luck.......
Help a newbie outSummary: First of all welcome to the board. I for one really appreciate all you have done for us while you are serving in the Middle East. If you weren't fighting them over there, we would be fighting them over here. Hope you visit and post often here.
With respect to your hunting inquiry, suggest you try www.captainterry.com. I have hunted and fished with Terry on a number of occasions and he has always taken the time to put me on the fish or the game. Good hog, turkey and quail hunting at his ranch. His boat is out of Port O' Connor. I don't think he does waterfowl hunts but I bet he could probably find you a good duck hunting guide in the area. If that doesn't work let me know, have two waterfowling guides out of Rockport.
Good hunting!
decoy set upSummary: I have heard some very good things about R-C from a former colleague that is from that area. You should do well there. I agree with previous comments from Do and Drake. I usually hunt with 3 or 4 dozen decoys. I place Mallards in one spot, teal in another and pintails in a third and leave a sizable place for landings in there - the fishhook that Do talked about is as good a description as I have heard. Try to get some motion in your spread, like a roboduck or tie some string onto two or three ducks and give it a few pulls as the flock is looking your way (but don't get busted by revealing yourself)
Ducks land coming into the wind so plan accordingly. Make sure you're not looking into the sun as well. (Put yourself between the sun and decoys)
Duck hunting is the best.... Also have a good dog and would be happy to come along if there is an empty spot in the boat...
Where is everyone???Summary: I have been working my butt off these past two weeks. I got to tell you, self-employment is an uphill sled.......
On the good side, was picking up one of my vans from the shop this evening and the owner invited me for night hunting varmints Saturday night and duck hunting Sunday. WOO HOO!!!!!
