Sort your results:Existing Search Criteria:Refine Your Search:Search Results:When is it too late?Summary: I really didn't duck hunt that much this season - in the past several years have hunted the Katy prairie - ducks and geese, near Winnie - with a lot of success for ducks, and this season hunted the area around Rockport.
Of the three, I like the Rockport area the best, although the duck season there this year was pretty poor. My buddy and I had a fantastic day down there before Christmas - the weather was bad but the hunting was good. I was supposed to go back there earlier this week and the guide called and told us that there were no ducks down there and to come back next year.
The dog and I are still in mourning over it - was to be our last duck hunt of the year, and I had turned down a dove hunt near Dilly to go to Rockport. Turns out the dove hunt was the best they had ever seen and I haven't heard the last of it from the guys that went over there.
Guess that's why they call it hunting...............
Doves on public landSummary:
There is really good dove hunting in Dilley, Texas each year between Christmas and new years. It is red dirt peanut fields. (Biggest durn peanut fields I have ever seen.) Its the best dove hunting I have ever seen in the US. Costs $40 or $50 for the whole day and in MHO is well worth the cost of admission. IF you have more $$$ go to Mexico - that is absolutely awesome. Good hunting. holographic sights for turkeysSummary: I have a Savage 24 - a .223 over a 12 guage for turkey hunting. The reason I bought it was for those times when the gobbler doesn't want to go to the decoys and hangs up just outside of shotgun range. I originally bought a Simmons red dot scope for it but, after about 50 rounds just can't get the...
Whats your shotgun of choice?Summary:
The Benelli Super Black Eagle is my all time favorite. I have either owned or shot a wide variety of shotguns ( also Beretta, Franci, Browning, Remington) and, given the choice, would take the Benelli over any of the other autos on the market today. It is just so doggone versatile - have hunted ducks, geese, dove, turkey, quail, chukkar, pheasant; have also shot skeet, trap and sporting clays with it... It simply does it all and does it well. There was a similar discussion on another board several months ago - the Beretta and the Winchester were also talked up as well. A bunch of people were enamoured with the Remmy 870 pump as being the best gun for the money in the universe.... But just give me my Benelli.
Someone say TURKEY?Summary:
Man - those are great rates for a three day hog / turkey hunt! One of the neat things about hunting in this state is the opportunity to do a combo hunt - I have done hog / turkey; dove / coyote; hog / coyote and deer / just about anything that moves (so long as its legal) in the past three or so years! I hear that in Mexico there is the chance to do a dove / duck hunt on the same day for pretty reasonable rates as well. Havent been on in a while!Summary:
Hey Danny - what was that line about waiting for hunting season????? Here in Texas its ALWAYS huntn' season....... Sorry to hear the pup is under the weather. If you want to take him dove hunting make sure you spend the time with him so he doesn't get gun shy that first day (I use a cap pistol at first followed a few weeks later with a 22 blank pistol). If its a good dove hunt he would be hearing BOOM BOOM an awful lot that first day. When I was training Dusty, I put her in an atmosphere of only a few shots on her first hunt. Didn't seem to bother her at all - she was having a great time that day as she has had ever since then. another turkey tale of woe..... (long post)Summary: Well I went down to Cuero again this past weekend. Got down there Friday evening with Matt and met my old hunting buddy Geoff from Austin. We went to the lease Friday evening at about 6:00 or so. We had just gotten out of the truck when we heard a gobble from about 200 yards away. We ran down t...
Last weekend of turkey season.Summary: Went down to Cuero this past weekend by myself to wrap the season up. Got down late Saturday afternoon and started hunting at about 5 PM or so. As I was walking to the area I wanted to hunt, a hog is standing out of the woods at a feeder. I saw him before he saw me, and I put a shot behind his s...
Its a comingSummary:
Maybe we can put together a Texas Hunt and Fish dove hunt over in Dilley this year - say late in the season when they start hitting the peanut fields...... Cost would be $50 a day to hunt. Motel there is about $40 a night. Could sleep two or three in a room. Arrive on a Friday or Saturday afternoon. Shoot that day. (I'd buy the first round that evening.) Get up and shoot the next morning. Drive home that evening. Total cost would be less than $150. Anybody interested? If so I'll look up the hunting season and and get back with some possible weekends. 98 results found Next Page >Showing results 1 through 10
