When you say birds I assume you mean Federal Migratory Birds like ducks, geese, & dove... They are not regulated by the state like deer / some states don't allow hunting deer over bait... There are only one set of rules for anything that is federal / if deer were a federal game animal all the states would have the same rules & season dates... hope this helps...

I would strongly encourage you to consider traveling south and check out some of the public hunting locations in South Texas such as the Units around Alice TX, and all along the 281 corridor all the way south until the Rio Grande Valley.  For the price of a public lands permit it such a great opportunity to hunt some quality fields for nice flocks of Whitewing and Morning Dove.  Even if it is once a season, ealy in the hunting season to get the maximum experience!!!

Where in San Marcos were you hunting, neasr the Outlets?  there are some area near town that look good for whitewing hunting!!!

I agree with you 100%, I myself had a chevy pickup with a gun rack on the back window, now you can't carry your guns like that because some "crackhead" will break in to your truck and steal your guns!!! But, I make sure to take my son dove hunting, deer hunting, hog hunting and we do alot of saltwater fishing!!!

Don't know about Dallas, but i can tell you that the Rio Grande Valley has some excellent places to hunt, I meet some people from houston and Dallas last weekend at Las Palomas WMA and they tell me they would rather drive down south for some good shooting action that hunt just average locations up north,

Still check out the site a few times per week.  It has just been so dad burn hot and now that a few cool fronts have came down and the dove season looks good I think it will open up in the next few weeks.  Deer looking good up in the panhandle and dove hunting is great here around the hill country..........Should be a great hunting season so ..get out there!!!!!!
