Sort your results:Existing Search Criteria:Refine Your Search:Search Results:Pup's first hunt testSummary: Well, last weekend I took Arrow to run in a hunting test put on by NAVHDA's Lone Star Chapter. Took place near Taylor, TX, at the Spanish Oak Hunt Club, and although I attended one of the chapter's training days last fall, it was my first test event. Part of my agreement with Arrow's breeder was ...
Training TableSummary: I recently constructed a Dog Training Table, much like the one in the plans available at : http://www.navhda.org/table.html For those unfamiliar with training tables, the idea is to get the dog up off the ground for two reasons. First, it puts the dog closer to you, which provides better eye con...
Article on spay/neuterSummary: http://www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/LongTermHealthEffectsOfSpayNeuterInDogs.pdf The article in the link above is worthwhile reading. An objective review of the data on spaying/neutering that you may find useful when making the decision on when/whether to spay or neuter your dog. Even if you only re...
planted pigeonsSummary:
Yeah, you want to try and not dizzy them too much or plant them in too thick of cover (where they won't be able to get up if the dog comes in on them).
Oh, and avoid this method with quail -- I have had the large majority of pen-raised quail fail to flush. If the dog repeatedly catches the bird, it can create some real problems (at least for those of us with pointing dogs).
GWP in need of rescueSummary: Don't know anything more about this dog than what is listed on the rescue page, but figured I would post it here in case someone would be interested. It is a 4-5yr old male GWP (neutered) located here in TX that supposedly has had some NAVHDA training. Could be a good find, perhaps worth looking ...
First Dove Hunt
Summary: This year Arrow got to join me for his first dove hunt. It was hot and a little hectic, but I was able to get him about an hour's worth of good work. He made several retrieves and it was fun to see his progress -- very rewarding to have a young dog that you're training yourself come out and do wh...
Mallard training dummiesSummary: Fantastic -- very rewarding, as I am learning, to train your own dog!
I would think that without any hard-mouth issues the avery ought to last just fine. Post a pic of your lab when you get the chance, and after a while you ought to post a product review of the avery training dummy over in the journals section.
teal seasonSummary: Sounds good, Cody. I can be a little more definite in my plans sometime next week, I think. This will be great fun.
By the way, where are you hunting dove? Is it one of Green's fields? Might be able to meet up at some point out there in Graham before making the trip south. I'd like to meet your dog, too, if you take him out there sometime.
