What part of East Tx are you looking at hunting in? I live and hunt at my house between Canton & Mabank. I shot 2 doe during bow season and my father-in-law shot a spike Thanksgiving wekend. The only buck I saw that was 13 in. was across the road from my place. I saw several small bucks when hunting and on the trail cam. look at this buck
Summary:
He's probably a piebald deer...essentially the product of a recessive gene. 'Bigmike' summarized it well when he said this about the threee general types of recessive gene outcomes: "piebald-as above, sometimes called pinto, but having white and black/brown splotches, the melanistic-which is a very dark brown, and the albino-total absence of pigment making it white including white eyes and nose". Here are some linked examples found at THF: Nice piebald bucks here and here Piebald doe here Melanistic bucks here and here Albino buck here Amistad NRA , Del Rio,TexasSummary:
I hunted there maybe 20 years ago and it is a great place to hunt. It is rugged, fair chase but there were a fair amount of deer there also. We hunted Area #2 and #1 but only got a shot at one doe the two days we were there. If you can spend some time there I am sure you could get a better feel for the place. They have a web site in Del Rio with a lot of info on their web site. Just look up Del Rio Bowhunters or try Amistad Bowhunters, etc. I remember a lot of good information they are willing to share. Seems like a great bunch of guys down there. Time for a new bullet???Summary:
I and my Brother in law have shot the accubonds 140 gr in a .270 for the last 5 years or so. I have been very happy with them, and have not had to track any animals very far...except a doe my sister gut shot this year. Yes, if you hit bone you will end up with a lot of hamburger, but I'd rather have hamburger on the ground than a wounded deer running. My Dad had an issue with the ballistic tip years ago. Shot a doe, watched her fall, took a leak, then she was gone. Never found blood, nor dead deer. Crazy hunt
Summary:
To add more info on it. I drove down the night before and got two hrs of sleep and the drove out to the farm. We set up at 5:30am and saw him around 8. He bedded down with a doe until 5pm that evening. We layed there all day waiting on him to come out. I shot him at 230yds with a 300WSM, we heard the thud and he even did a back flip. He got up and ran!! CRAZY!!!!! 1188 results found Next Page >Showing results 1 through 10
