do you travel, located near Kerrville, if so how much? Over run with hogs and government has cut down on flying in our area due to budget cuts.... contact me at callcottranches@yahoo.com Recomend a good knife for field dressing deer?Summary:
Tom: If you are not going to reload those spent .30-30 rounds, I'd like to have them. I come through Austin usually twice a year (both times during deer season) and would be glad to stop by, meet you and collect any spent brass you have for the .30-30. I intend to start reloading for the .30-30 after this deer season. On the PakLite skinner, the only thing I don't like is the curve at the back of the blade near the finger groove. I can't sharpen it with a flat sharpener, but then again, the pointy end is all I've ever used to skin and cut so it works just fine for me. new deer hunter questions - please helpSummary:
The cart will work, but it is something else to carry with you. Another way of taking a deer out, is to get a piece of very heavy canvas. Best place to find it would probably be a military surplus store. Cut it about 2' by 6'. Sew a strong grommet at each corner. Fold it as small as possible and place it in your pack. When you shoot a deer, tag it and field dress it. Then tie the deer on top of the canvas with the head forward. Use a short length of rope tied to the two front grommets and the head to pull it. You want to have the front slightly off of the ground so that it will slide over obstacles easier. Sounds harder than it is. I have used this successfully when I was hunting in areas without vehicular access. Had feeder and ladder stand stolen!!!Summary:
Paper woods?I was on one close to a neighborhood and suffered the same thing. My first year on I was waving to people on fourwheelers that were not even on the lease.During the first year i saw the same bastards riding at night with rifles.I was unarmed so I drove past them hiding on side of the road.My suggestion is to cut your losses and get off!!
Homemaid Hog FeederSummary:
We use the hog pipe at our ranch in Benavides and have good success getting the hogs to come in, problem is they can empty the corn in one night, we are upgrading by putting a trail cam near the hog pipe and gonna put a hog light to hunt the pigs after dark if needed. We alos like to put cut apples in with the corn to keep the scent longer in the pipe and we put gravel rocks in also so when the pipe is empty with corn the pigs can still roll it around and the rocks make noise to attract other pigs. Truth About Antlers: How They Grow (Part 1)
Summary:
Antler Shedding: The New Beginning Antlers shed when testosterone levels decrease, which can vary by location and time, but most antlers are shed from February to April. When bucks keep their antlers on longer than normal, it can cut into their antler growth period (Shorter antler growing season = Less time to grow bigger antlers). Shed antlers have a rough texture at the base, where it was connected to the deer's pedicle (the growing location for antlers on the skull). However, some shed antlers take a piece of skull or pedicle with them when they are cast which may cause an infection called a brain abscess which has been shown to cause up to 10% natural mortality in herds with older bucks. If a buck survives, they may grow "funky" antlers, such as one-sided spike, or other deformation because of the injury to the pedicle. Typically, bucks are able to heal the injury after a year or two, however, some may never recover to "normal." please donate to meSummary:
Hornhunter, I think that the mistake you're making is that you're leaving out a couple of buzz words in your narative. There is no mention of diversity or global warming, excuse me "climate change". Maybe if you mention that you're doing your best to cut down on the nasty CO2 gases that are being exhaled by those nasty deer and pigs, you can get a few donations. Tell people how your food plots are actually meant to help rid the environment of CO2. Also, you probably know that pigs are offensive to some. You need to market yourself as an Eco-Diversity warrior. Every dollar that people send you helps in the never ending fight to preserve the ecology and promote diversity. That will surely get you a couple of six packs. Hell, maybe even a couple of cases. Squirrel StewSummary:
Last month I also cooked up two tenderloins, cut up a half of one...he had eaten the entire thing before I was able to sit down with my plate! I have to hunt just to keep this boy fed! He eats Turtle Gumbo, Squirrel, all different kinds of Venison dishes, fresh fish, Wild Boar...all with stuff you wouldn't figre kids to eat. And I even make sure he knows what it is. I show it to him when I come home from the field, then tell him what it is before he eats it. Speaking of kids, at what age did you guys first take your kids hunting? and how did it work out? My dad would not take me until I was 10. I know I will take Chayton way before that, but when? 1228 results found Next Page >Showing results 1 through 10
