Search Results:Texans Can Now Legally Noodle Their Catfish
Summary:
ALTHOUGH IT HAS BEEN AT LEAST 30YRS AGO, I HAVE DONE THIS. BEST FISH I HAVE CAUGHT WAS ABOUT 30#. THE ABOVE PICT SHOWS A "YELLOW" THAT WOULD WEIGH 70-100#. DON'T THINK THAT IS A REAL PICT. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO NEVER HAVE TRIED THIS, IT IS NOT AS EASY AS YOU MAY THINK, A LARGE FISH WITH ROOM TO MOVE AROUND IS A HARD (AND MOSTLY BLOODY BATTLE---FOR YOU). THEY CAN BE VERY PROTECTIVE OF THEIR HOME. THOSE OF YOU WHO CATCH LARGE EVEN AVERAGE FISH 5-10# HAVE FELT THEIR TEETH WHEN TAKING THEM OFF OF YOUR HOOK. THINK WHAT THEY CAN DO ONE TO ONE. IF YOU DESIDE TO TRY NOODLING, BE READY TO LOOSE SOME SKIN AND A LITTLE BLOOD. AND IT WILL HURT FOR A FEW DAYS, BUT IT IS A LOT OF FUN AND WILL PUT SOME GREAT EATIN FISH IN THE OL' FRIER. THEY WILL EVEN TASTE BETTER TO YOU BECAUSE YOU HAD TO BLEED TO FEED----PUN ON WORDS PEOPLE, BUT USUALLY TRUE. New to the area, how's Calaveras?Summary:
Calevares is a good fishing spot, especially for cats, reds and bass. I have fished the extreme northeast end of the lake and caught alot of catfish my first time out, but I have heard of people having good success on the south end near the pier and damm area. Braunig lake is not too bad either, if your lucky enough and you use good live bait, you have a chance of cathing some nice Reds BEAST FEAST / Men's Conference - 09/27/2010 - WRBC Mansfield, TXSummary:
The food was amazing!!! Venison, elk, wild hog, various sausages, catfish and all the trimmins!!! And the prizes ...wooooooo doggie the prizes were nothin to sneeze at!! Folks when all was said and done we gave away over $16,000 (yeah... that's sixteen thousand!!!) bucks worth of hunting trips, fishing trips, club memberships, firearm & reel cleaning services, rods, reels, loads of goodies for the kiddos; and we even auctioned off a scooter and a 5-day hunting trip in Namibia. Naw folks... that ain't in East Texas!! That's Namibia, Africa!!!
And Jay was absolutely fantastic! All-in-all it was one AWESOME event!! And we're already underway on planning the next one!!
Last tally we got on the ticket sales was right in the 700-750 range!!!! We talked about the food... folks even with that many people at the event, we still had plenty of food even after folks got 2nds and 3rds!!!! So definitely plan on being at the next event and help make it an annual tradition of yours!!
Here's a few pics from the event. Once I get all the photos from the photographer together, I'll build a slideshow and post it up!!

World Record Peacock Bass - caught by Jim Kern (yeah, he was a pro-baseball pitcher for Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers); he was there at the show with a booth and it was a hoot watching folks when they finally realized who they were talking with!! The official unveiling of the world record peacock bass was made at the event!!!

your best bet for catfish is under the striper, i dint catfish but a friend of mine is a striper guide i have seen them catch huge catfish by drifting cut shad underneath the striper. as for as the smaller fish this time of year i catch a lot of them on the bluffs when i am bass fishing. they mouth of the river is where my buddy is fishing right now,and the flats on the south side of the bridge. good luck claveras or browning lakeSummary:
I like fishing Calaveras more then Browning Lake for catfish, you can catch good numbers quickly with shrimp or chicken liver, cut bait. To go after the big Reds you need good fresh live shad, look for points that extend out. At Browning lake there is a good bank spot that is a point on the south shore and you have to get there early in the AM to fish that spot because there are always someone there fishing. Good luck and post up any pics of you have any luck. There are some good cheap fishing guides also that will take you out in the boat with bait and rigs for about 50 dollars for half day and 100 for full day that catch alot of good Reds and Hybird Bass!!! CATFISH LOVE RISING WATER, but WHY?
Summary:
I have found the same to be true for Saltwater, one of the best fishing days I ever had was after alot of rain that caused the Nueces River to flood the back bay. This pushed freshwater Aligator gay into brackish water estuaries and the Redfish bite increased also. The rain and flood water stirs up all the crabs, shrimp and other fish food that causes the fish to go on a feeding frenzy!!! PLANNING IS HALF THE FUN!Summary:
You read my mind, I always over plan when preparing for my great outdoor adventures. Sounds like you got all the bases covered. Some Bass fishing, Dove Hunting, Catfish, and a bonus ALigator Gar wont hurt either. Enjoy your exciting trip and hope the cooler gets full with birds and fish. Eat some for me because I can't get away until Labor Day weekend, right now I'm stuck at school holding college presentations for students, rather be hunitng and fishing!!! 814 results found Next Page >Showing results 1 through 10
