Search Results:Race Car Sends Deer FLYING!
Summary:
I've hit five, maybe six deer with my car and truck. The first one was a doe with my 76 cutlass doing at least 55. It took out the passenger headlight, fender and half the grill. Over two thousand dollars damage. The doe had no cuts, no bruises, but the neck and back were broken. The heart also exploded when the corner of the bumper hit it. It completely ruptured. The next was a nice buck I hit doing about 45-50 with my suburban. It took out the passenger headlight, all the grill, and caved the fender back. He skidded on the highway about 30 feet leaving hair and gristle and then walked away. In '98 I hit a beautiful buck doing about 55-60 dead center. Again I had to replace the grill, head lights, radiator, etc. He skidded twenty or thirty feet and laid in the ditch apparently dying. A good samaritan, in who's yard it almost wind up on would not allow me to dispatch it until I called the DNR (the legal way). Even insisted I use his house phone. By the time I got done with the phone call the deer was gone and it had gotten dark. I searched the swamp on the right that evening and the next morning. I finally found the gut pile on the opposite side in a field, 30-40 yards away from the road. Apparently it dragged itself over there, gutted itself, then walked away. When I purchased my '99 suburban the following spring I had a brush guard installed on it. I hit two deer with that one, doing under forty both times. No damage to my truck and both deer walked away. A couple of years ago I hit a deer with my tahoe but I went right over it, so did the next half a dozen cars right behind me. And yes, I have a brush guard on my tahoe too. None of the deer flew more than a few feet off the ground but my vehicles were not aerodynamic like the race car was.
Maybe we will just have to examine it frame by frame.
