my 8pointer

my 8pointer
Summary:

There are two glands on the inside of his back legs called the tarsal glands.  During the rut bucks will urinate on those glands, and with older ones the glands get stained and turn dark.  Unless I'm mistaken, by the looks of those pictures he has stains like that on the inside of both his back legs.  Either that or he has some unusual skin or fur coloring going on there.

Liberty County 60 acre lease

Liberty County 60 acre lease
Summary:

Nice buck...I'd say 3.5 YO, but its really hard to tell from the one photo - he might be older than that.

I knew a guy in ETX that leased 145 ac, and between he, his wife, and son took 4 or 5 good bucks off there in about 3 years, all by bow - they thought it was a 'buck sanctuary' where the big boys would hide out pre and post rut.  It would be interesting how many bucks stay on your place around the rut.

Buckscore's Public Pursuit: Ep. 5 - The Rut Is On!
Summary:

Your work paid off hansomely Jeremy, and to me there's little better than seeing the fruits of your labors.

'Dad' has mostly guided this year, except for taking a couple of cull bucks.  However my youngest son John landed a whoozer of an 8 pt this week as his first deer ever on low-fenced private land in WTX.  I posted some pics as 'John's First Buck'.

Watching my son take his first deer, especially one like that, goes beyond words.

The Stalk

Summary: We had managed to get away from the DFW rat race for a week early in the season.  Deer movement was probably the most erratic we'd ever seen.  Early in the week I'd rattled-up a very nice 3.5 YO eight point at this one place just to let him walk and grow another year, but took my son over there to ...

Three Locked Bucks

Three Locked Bucks
Summary: Got this via email.  It apparently occurred last month per some of the web chatter "(Happened in Meigs County Ohio within the last few days. Ed Waite) This is the result of three bucks all fighting for one lady.  They had the bank of this creek all tore up.  All together I estimated the deer to...

Wisconsin Buck

Wisconsin Buck
Summary: Got thjis via email and checked it out - with perhaps the comments over how much Cabela's offered him for the deer its true.     "Deer Hunters:   Here are some early photos of a great deer taken during the youth hunt this year.   This buck was shot at a property only eight miles from ...

Rut in Scheicher County

Summary:

Thanks Ken...

We usually peak a little before you do, after Thanksgiving, just a little before Dec 1.  But, I talked to the rancher who owns our place a couple of days ago - he thought they were getting into it last weekend.  This morning I talked to a friend who hunts west of Eldorado...he saw big bodied deer with their noses to the ground last weekend and was fairly certain they were rutting.  Since the original post I've talked with a local taxidermist in Eldorado - the ranchers are tellin' him the same thing...and apparently hunters are bringing in bucks to the taxidermist to back that up.

At this point I have to believe up in our neck of the woods (which is about 50-60 miles north of where you are), especially with this last call from the taxidermist, they're in rut.

A New Wrinkle in Rattling-Up Bucks

A New Wrinkle in Rattling-Up Bucks
Summary: Anybody know anything about these kind of rattling antlers?  I don't, but to some degree it makes sens

Rock Springs Buck

Rock Springs Buck
Summary:

Let's see a link there,  'ol buddy.  Could be the video camera angle, but it looks some like pretty good elevation change, as well as some cedar.  I've been through the King Ranch multiple times and hunted on a part of the Kennedy Ranch.  Don't recall much cedar, if any.

Maybe it is the King Ranch...or maybe the guy that said it was from King Ranch was wrong!  All I can say is the guy who sent it to me has hunted round Rocksprings for years and said it was taken there.

Regardless, very nice bucks whether its Rocksprings, King Ranch, or Hong Kong! :)
