Summary: Anywhere I can get permission. I will be in the Davy Crockett National Forest this weekend and next. We do some hunting on the ranch near College Station. One 4 day hunt in West Texas in December near Eldorado. Then the bow lease in Leander.

I love finding sheds, kinda like a bonus. Very cool, hope you find another one of those big East Texas bucks to chase this fall.

I will be in your neck of the woods for rifle opener...my brother and I will be hunting the DCNF. We are taking off early Friday morning before opener to get a decent camping spot and maybe scout the Big Slough Wilderness area for some of those big East Texas swamp bucks. We will be camping at the camp off of HWY 21. We plan on doing some rattling and filming, hope we get lucky...pray for cold weather.

A buddy I hunt with was hunting the DCNF bow season 1998 and shot a nice 8 pt that went 126 and is in P&Y. He found one of the bucks sheds while he was tracking the buck after the shot and the buck would have been bigger the previous year. There was a drought in East Texas that year so the deer didn't get the same nutrition.

Summary: I'm pumped!  I got the biggest buck ever with my bow. He won't go P&Y but he is plenty good for me. I only have one photo but my brother will be emailing more soon. My friends son is posing with the buck.

Carry a backup?

Summary: I don't carry any kind of backup weapon. I have often thought about the possibility of walking up on a boar but never had any kind of close calls. It's not legal to carry a firearm while bow hunting but if I felt I needed one I would carry. If you hunt the East Texas Piney Woods you also have to think about Black Bear. I know the area where we hunt is a restocking area. Something to think about.

Summary: Chris, I had a great time hunting  with and getting to know you guys also. Maybe I can put a hunt together at my friends place in Gonzales so you can put some pork in the freezer. Also, get that bow down here and we will do some deer hunting in the fall.
