Search Results:Farm Bill UpdateSummary:
The most important call you make this hunting season might not be the one that goes “quack.” The U.S. Senate is in the final stages of debating the 2007 Farm Bill, and your calls to your Senators are more important than ever. Every phone call you make to your Senators to remind them of the importance of the Conservation Reserve Program, the Wetlands Reserve Program, the Grasslands Reserve Program, and Sodsaver helps Ducks Unlimited take one step closer to fulfilling our mission of skies full of waterfowl, now and forever. The message is simple – Support Conservation. Tell your Senators to support Sodsaver to protect the remaining native prairie. Tell them to support the Wetlands Reserve Program, and fix the appraisal issue that has discouraged landowners from conserving their land. Tell them to support the Conservation Reserve Program and not allow lands enrolled in the program to be used for biofuel crops. So on your way to the blind, before you start making ducks calls, make a call for the ducks. Tell your Senators to support conservation, and support the ducks! HB 653 updateSummary: HB 653 is still not scheduled for a hearing in the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee, but it looks like it might be heard on April 24. A humane organization based in El Paso is urging supporters to call members of the committee. Supporters also say they have over 27,000 signatures in petitions supporting HB 653, but it's looking better for those who oppose because it's getting late in the session.
Act now for HB 247 and HB 3124Summary: HB 247 is up for hearing today (Tuesday, 5/8/01) before the Senate Natural Resources Committee in the Senate Chamber at 2 p.m. It should pass out of committee quickly, so now is the time to contact your local senator about his vote on the Senate Floor. (See the committee members below, and go to www.capitol.state.tx.us to find out who your senator is and how to contact him or her.)
US SENATE COULD VOTE ON GUN SHOW LANGUAGE THIS WEEKSummary: Anti-gunners are about to launch another attack on your Right to
Keep and Bear Arms! When the U.S. Senate starts debate on
education legislation, enemies of the Second Amendment are planning
to hijack the education bill by offering anti-gun amendments -- to
register guns, license gun owners, effectively ban gun shows, and/or
mandate the use of gun locks -- in another shameless attempt to
exploit the recent anniversary of the tragedy at Columbine.
