Farm Bill Update

Summary:

The most important call you make this hunting season might not be the one that goes “quack.”

The U.S. Senate is in the final stages of debating the 2007 Farm Bill, and your calls to your Senators are more important than ever.

Every phone call you make to your Senators to remind them of the importance of the Conservation Reserve Program, the Wetlands Reserve Program, the Grasslands Reserve Program, and Sodsaver helps Ducks Unlimited take one step closer to fulfilling our mission of skies full of waterfowl, now and forever.

The message is simple – Support Conservation. Tell your Senators to support Sodsaver to protect the remaining native prairie. Tell them to support the Wetlands Reserve Program, and fix the appraisal issue that has discouraged landowners from conserving their land. Tell them to support the Conservation Reserve Program and not allow lands enrolled in the program to be used for biofuel crops.

So on your way to the blind, before you start making ducks calls, make a call for the ducks. Tell your Senators to support conservation, and support the ducks!

US SENATE COULD VOTE ON GUN SHOW LANGUAGE THIS WEEK

Summary: Anti-gunners are about to launch another attack on your Right to Keep and Bear Arms! When the U.S. Senate starts debate on education legislation, enemies of the Second Amendment are planning to hijack the education bill by offering anti-gun amendments -- to register guns, license gun owners, effectively ban gun shows, and/or mandate the use of gun locks -- in another shameless attempt to exploit the recent anniversary of the tragedy at Columbine.

Thank These Senators.

Summary: Yesterday, the Texas Senate debated and passed SB 819 by Sen. Ken Armbrister (D-Victoria) and Sen. David Bernsen (D-Beaumont) on a non-record vote. This important bill clarifies that the Texas Legislature has the exclusive authority to regulate the carrying of concealed handguns.
