Shot this free-range Axis last Monday night south of Junction.  His horns were about 31" long and he was one old coot, to the point where his coat was turning lighter.

Wish I had some better pictures but it was raining/misting and the wind was up.

Taken last Monday south of Junction in Kimble County.  Although my son didn't shoot it himself he was beside himself - he's never seen an Axis buck up that close before.

The landowner where we hunt was nice enough to let us take a couple of axis deer off his place this year.  Those of you who've seen them up close know how beautiful their hides are - we took this hide to get it tanned.

Good looking buck.  It seems that area around Junction does have a lot of axis in it...we see alot south of Junction there near Telegraph, along the South Llano River.

Don't know whether you've ever had Axis venison before, but its the best we've ever had.

Nice buck.  With the photo its hard to tell, but he doesn't look that old.  Those axis would have been history though - very good eating.
