The field is set for the 2008 BoatU.S. National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship (NCBFC), with 106 two-person teams representing 57 schools from 23 states registered to participate. The full-field enrollment makes it the largest college bass tournament ever held.

The Louisiana/Texas Division of the $8.8 million Walmart Bass Fishing League® will visit Sam Rayburn Reservoir in Jasper, Texas, September 20-21 for its final regular-season event. As many as 200 boaters and 200 co-anglers are expected to compete in the tournament, which will award as much as $67,500 in cash, including a top award of $9,000 in the Boater Division.

The BoatU.S. Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water honored Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, NY with its 2007 Clean Water Grant Excellence Award as it announced over $50,000 in new grants to 19 groups across the country for its 2008 Clean Water Grant program.

Boater Ronnie Bickham of New Boston, Texas, won the Walmart Bass Fishing League Louisiana/Texas Division Super Tournament on Sam Rayburn Reservoir with a two-day catch of 10 bass weighing 37 pounds, 4 ounces. The victory earned Bickham $4,678.

Boater Dicky Newberry of Houston, Texas, earned a fully rigged Ranger 198VX and a new Chevy truck Saturday as the winner of the Walmart Bass Fishing League Regional Championship on Lake Ouachita in Mount Ida, Arkansas. The top 40 boaters and the top 40 co-anglers from the Cowboy, Louisiana/Texas, Okie and Ozark divisions competed in the three-day event.

Michael Burns of Plano, Texas, and Bassmaster Elite Series pros Rick Clunn of Ava, Missouri, and Jami Fralick of Martin, South Dajita, qualified Saturday for the 2009 Bassmaster Classic through the Bassmaster Central Open circuit.

Roughly three months away from the 2009 Bassmaster Classic, the full field of 51 anglers was finalized Saturday with David Williams of Maiden, North Carolina, winning the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series Championship Operated by American Bass Anglers and scoring the final Classic berth. The 39th edition of the Classic will be held February 20-22 on the Red River out of Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana.

Leading tackle manufacturer Daiwa Corporation presented FishAmerica Foundation with a $10,000 donation at the recent 2008 Sportfishing Summit in Denver, Colorado. Fish America Foundation will use Daiwa's contribution to enhance family fishing waters and ensure that future generations of anglers will have access to fishing areas.
