From Mid-September to Late April every year we hunt Free-range Trophy Aoudad in Ranches from the Texas hill country to the mountians in the Trans-Pecos Region. The hunt is typically done by spot and stalk, however some ranches offer the option of blinds as well. Although these hunts are very physically intense we have ranches to accommodate hunters at every skill level. These Hunts include 3 days Fully-guided Hunting, Lodging, Caping and preperation of your Trophy. Meals can be arranged at an additional charge.

We hunt several ranches throughout the texas hill country.The Ranches have great lodging and facilities! We offer both free-range and game-fenced hunts. Our Sucess rates are near 95% on our exotic hunt. A Guide and Lodging will be provided  as well as caping and preparation of your trophy.( Meals  can be provided at an additional charge)

The Vinegarroon Ranches cover 27,500 acres in Val Verde County, Texas. All of our ranches are low fence and all of our hunts are fair chase. Vinegarroon's hunts are geared to the outdoor sportsman that likes the challenge of hunting a mature whitetail buck in his natural range. Our ranches lie between the Devil's River and the Rio Grande River in the rolling hills and canyons. The terrain is covered in a variety of low thorny brush that provides high nutritional value for our whitetail population. You will be hunting country in which we have bucks we have yet to see and the deer have not been pressured by over hunting.

We maintain a year-round feed and mineral supplemental feeding program and census count to determine herd balance and density annually. Our southwest Texas ranches have a deer density of 1 deer to 12 acres and a buck to doe ratio of 1 buck to 2 doe. One buck to approximately 500 acres will be harvested and the necessary doe to keep our herd in balance. We ask our hunters to harvest a mature whitetail buck of at least 4 1/2 years of age. Hunters should see 10-15 bucks a day. Our average bucks will be 6.5 year old bucks in the 130-140 B&C gross class with our top deer each year in the 150-160's.

We are headquartered on a 2,300 acre ranch south of Highway 90, approximately 15 miles southeast of Brackettville.  The ranch was named Pavo, spanish for peacock, after an old railroad switch track / loading pens which borders the ranch, between the major highway route of the time and Spofford.  Arenosa Creek runs through the middle of the ranch providing excellent watering holes for wildlife and plentiful roosts for turkey.  All three ranches are on the break of the Texas Brush Country and the South Texas Mesquite Flats, giving the aspects and feel of both, as well as the benefits of both types of terrain and vegetation. 

While managing the whitetail deer herd, along with other wildlife, we limit the number of animals of each species harvested on an annual basis.  Whitetail bucks are further limited by categories, either trophy or management.  Management bucks are generally older in age, usually 8 points or less, with undesirable characteristics. 

All three ranches are low fenced, thus all hunts are fair chase, or a term we'd rather refer to it as "non-canned".  Two of the three ranches host the exotics, including the lone zebra photographed above, which has grown particularly found of the cattle in recent years.  The exotics have been roaming into the ranches in the past few years and have established decent populations.  None the less it always provides a variety of wildlife to view while being in the outdoors.

Acorn Outfitters, LLC hunts on one of the largest cattle ranches in Val Verde and Kinney Counties, which is a 4th generation, family owned and operated ranch. Hunting is done on approximately 25,000 acres. These prime hunting ranches are located between Brackettville and Del Rio which is approximately 150 miles west of San Antonio, Texas in the northern perimeters of the legendary South Texas Brush Country.

The terrain includes dense mesquite thickets, black brush, oak motts, rolling hills, South Texas vegetation and 3 major creeks run though the ranches (Pinto, Mud and Sycamore). Also included are several large water tanks. Our habitat is in excellent shape after the recent rains and the nutrition necessary to produce good racks. The ranch strives to maintain a healthy animal environment and managed to produce the best whitetail deer, turkey, and exotics.
