Ozzie has lived in Bay City all his life, and he started fishing when he was 7. At that time, you admired a man that had a boat with a 70 horsepower motor. As he grew up, Ozzie spent as many weekends fishing in Matagorda as possible.  Ozzie bought his first boat in 1977 and has been fishing East and West Matagorda Bay ever since. He shrimped commercially in the late 70's  and early 80's, and has oystered East and West Matagorda Bay for 30 years.

Ozzie's friends gave him the nickname "Pelican" because he always catches fish when no one else can. Ozzie knows where the fish will be feeding, what bait works best, and when the fish will be biting.  Ozzie has lived up to the name Pelican.

Ozzie enjoys teaching anyone who wants to learn how to fish. He has extensive knowledge of the bay system and 44 years of fishing experience.  Articles about Ozzie have been published in Texas Parks and Wildlife and Heartland Magazine.  Ozzie has shared his fishing experience with people from all over the United States, and looks forward fishing with you.

Capt. Ray Sexton has been fishing the Matagorda Bay Complex for more than twenty years. Born and raised in Matagorda Bay area, he has spent many hours on these waters and has the experience to insure that your fishing trip will be safe, successful, fun trip. Capt. Sexton has been professionally guiding Bay fishing trips for ten years, very consistently catching fish, and showing his clients why the Matagorda Bay Complex has the reputation for outstanding Texas saltwater fishing. Capt. Sexton's preferred method of fishing is with bait, when bait is in season. This because he has found that his clients have more success fishing with natural baits. During the winter season, lures are used exclusively. Capt. Ray has a passion for wade fishing with lures and has found wade fishing to be the most productive way of fishing. Drift fishing or "anchoring up" trips are available for those clients who prefer to fish out of the boat; the best time of year to fish this method is in the fall or early spring.

While fishing with Capt. Ray Sexton, you will be aboard a 22' 6" Marshall boat powered by a 175Hp 4-Stroke Suzuki, providing a smooth, quiet ride.

Bay Prairie Outfitters is owned and operated by Mike Ladnier, who won the titles from both the 1988 & 1991 Texas State duck calling championship, as well as the 1989 Ark/La/Tex Regional Duck Calling Championship. Mike has been a professional waterfowl guide since 1979.

Bay Prairie outfitters and lodge was established in 1988, and is located in Midfield Texas, about 80 miles southwest of Houston.

We provide experienced professional guides, dogs, white parkas, wind socks for goose and sandhill cranes and large sets of duck decoys. We pride ourselves in using only the best waterfowl hunting equipment available. We have access to over 40,000+ acres of prime waterfowl habitat that includes rice, corn, milo, soybean and rye grass fields.

There are no rookie guides at Bay Prairie Outfitters

Our lease holdings stretch out over 5 south Texas counties: Jackson, Lavaca, Matagorda, Wharton, and Victoria, recognized as the rice "Rice Belt" of Texas. Most of the hunting locations are within 30-40 minutes of the Bay Prairie Lodge.
