New to Texas

Hi Jonathan and welcome I ve been told LBJ Grasslands is probably the best place near Dallas to hunt for turkey, as several of the guys that visit this board have done so. But, since Texas doesn t have a lot of public land 90 of Texas is privately owned the hunting can be a challenge. Texas Parks and Wildlife also has draw hunts, but these may be too far for you to travel.

Texas Turkey Where to Start

A round trip to Sam Houston National Forest is going to cost a few hundred bucks in fuel at today s price. The birds you are looking at traveling to hunt are Eastern turkeys as where the birds in South Texas are Rio s. There are a lot more Turkey in South Texas then East Texas so if killing a bird is a priority I suggest dishing out a few hundred bucks and hunt locally. Good luck and welcome to Texas.

gas is too high to turkey hunt

Sorry friend, believe me we all feel your pain. However in a speech last year, UNCLE OBAMA, said that he would like the price of gas to be in the 5 7.00 per gallon range so we as Americans would be more in line with our fellow man in Europe. WONDERFULL. We cannot drill for oil in most of our own country but we must pay thru the nose at the pump.

Corpus Christi Info.

I grew up just outsode of Corpus in odem and there are some real nice areas around there for country living, then there is Callalen with great schools on hwy 624, but if that was me moving to the area I would recomend the Orange Grove, Sandia area near the lake, there is the best whitewing dove hunting, plentyfull wildlife, deer hogs and better get your fishing gear ready because Corpus has some of the best fishing in Texas, i recomend investing in a boat, i dont mind showing you all the fishing spots also. The area off hwy 359 outside of Alice TX or Kingsville area is another small country living area with nice ranch property. i think once you move to the area if your a big sportsmen, take advantage of all the hunting from Dove, Duck, Quail, Turkey, Deer, Hogs, geese, Crane, exotics, it s a sportsmen paradise down here
