Texas Parks and Wildlife commissioners decided Wednesday they don t have enough information to make decisions about the future of quail hunting in Texas. Quail populations have been in a steady decline of about 2.8 percent per year for four decades, upland game bird program leader Robert Perez told members of the commission s regulations committee. The decline is symptomatic of a habitat problem, Perez said. To address the current situation, state quail managers recommended that commissioners adopt a new set of regulations that would create two quail zones, a shorter hunting season and a reduced bag limit in part of the state. One of the zones would be in the east part of the state and would have a 5 bird daily bag limit. The other zone would be in the west and would retain a 15 bird per day limit.

Got this in an email today and had to share We had a great European Pheasant Hunt at Spanish Oak Hunt Club Saturday. It was raining and cold, but it was great fun and there were plenty of smiles to go around. Speaking of smiles...I had to share these photos of 2 of my young students, Canaan age 13 and Lincoln age 10 at their first Pheasant hunt. I had the distinct pleasure of giving these boys shooting lessons on two different occasion along with their family. This is why I love this sport, families shooting together and hunting together make memories for life. These are fine young men, and I hope you are as proud of them as we are. Mom shot her first bird with a Model 12 20 gauge Great job Leah Notice that Canaan was shooting a model 42 .410 pump. He shot his first Pheasant at 60 yards crossing and dropped the bird with one shot Lincoln is shooting a very old single shot, drop hammer .410. He also got his first bird with a fantastic single shot. I told the boys that any...
