How Did The First Day of Dove Season Go

Unfortunately, i had to work today and on Friday, but I will be heading down south to the RGV for the special whitewing weekend hunt. I heard some great reports from friends that went out this am near San Antonio and found plenty of flocks some as big as 50 birds flying over corn and sunflowers. I have been seeing plenty of birds all around the SA area and some fields I scouted in South Texas, the key is finding fields with good native food source and water nearby where the birds are actively using to drink. Just because there is a tank of water does not mean birds are gonna use that tank, it has to have the right elements for doves to land and walk up to the bank and drink

Fawns Trophies of Tomorrow

The Birthdate Effect It might not be the first thing that you think of when talking about what causes deer to have smaller antlers than others, but birthdate can affect antler size. This is because the later buck fawns are born the less time they have to prioritize nutrients towards starting antler growth, body growth comes first. This means later born bucks will be playing catch up to earlier born bucks and will on typically have smaller antlers as yearlings 1 1 2 . This is mainly an issue in the South, where fawns are born anywhere from May to October, which means those early born fawns have 5 more months of growth than later born fawns. However, research shows this birthdate effect normally diminishes by 3 years of age.

Texas Wildfires Near You

I remember back in the early 70 s in West Texas, we lost a lot of ranch land to fires. Don t remember the acreage, but some were the result of careless smokers, but the highway patrol caught some High School kids with gas filled coke bottles in their pickup and they admitted to setting several fires that burned a lot of acreage south of San Angelo.
