not to late to start. bucks still have there antlers and does have yet to start haveing fawns. mummies makes a apple flavor protien feed that i use and it does make the deer look better in the winter but i feed it year around with corn. also if there are no apple trees you may want to try tieing some cheep apple to trees the week befor and the days you hunt deer love them and will hang around more

Hunting in Texas from the Texas Parks Wildlife Department I have never hunted during muzzle loader season and don t understand some of the terminology, but if I understand it correctly, breech muzzle loading firearms are not classified as a muzzle loader authorized for use during deer season in Texas. If someone understands and can clarify the wording and terminology used to define a muzzle loading firearm, please contribute to either affirm my thoughts or correct them.
Recomend a good knife for field dressing deer

Buck PakLite Skinner http www.buckknives.com index.cfm event product.detail productID 3769 I own the Buck OakLite Skinner and carry it for daily use. It was purchased from Academy for 19.95 plus sales tax during last deer hunting season. It s 420 Rockwell hardness, hollow ground and holds an edge fairly well. I use a Smith s 6 diamond sharpener to sharpen it and can shave with it after sharpening. I find the rounded tip is excellent for skinning. Buck also has the longer blade version just below. Buck PakLite Skinner Large http www.buckknives.com index.cfm event product.detail productID 3952 The web site below sells most name brand knives at a discounted price and usually prepays shipping. I ve purchased rrom them and received excellent service. http nagornysknives.com index.php main_page product_info cPath 1_58 products_id 1585

Where Will You Be Hunting This Weekend

Sadly, I m in the same boat... unemployed since April 15, 2011 and don t know if I will be able to purchase a hunting license along with the Public Hunting Permit to take advantage of the Sam Houston National Forest. I will be able to purchase a hunting license and have a friend who lives in Brady, Tx and has 50 acres with deer feeders set up and feeding all year long. I know the fuel costs to get there and back will exceed the cost of a Public Hunting Permit, but I am guaranteed a full freezer of venison for making the trip to see him. My wife and I usually celebrate Thanksgiving with him and his wife and so I ll give up the opportunity to hunt in the forest for squirrels after deer season to make sure I have venison in the freezer to feed the family. Selling AMSOIL helps, but doesn t provide near enough to replace a full time job yet .

High Fence Preditors

i have been hunting in the same spot for a couple years on about 500 acres, last year next to are lease they started putting up a high fence right at the beginning of bow season and completed by gun season. we where dreading the gun hunt season thinking they locked up all the deer, but susprising we saw more deer than usuall. the deer turn the high fence into a road path to follow, we saw deer walking the fence ever time we pulled into the pasture. so for us its enhanced our huntting by watching them walk the fence, then coming into are feeders.
