Just wanted to put a word out on a ranch here in Texas. I quit working at Eight Point Ranch in November as a personal chef after I discovered the owner, Bobby Girling, was stealing my tip money. If you have ever working in the hunting industry you know that tips are what we make our living off of. I worked hard for this ranch. Most days I was there at 5am and didnt leave until 9pm. I received a very low hourly wage and got no overtime even though I worked 14 16 hour days. My tips were my livelyhood. I had suspected I as being stolen from when I started seeing the big gap in tip amounts from when hunters tipped with cash directly to me versus it going through the office in check or credit card form. The amounts were hundreds of dollars apart. On top of that I was given excuses like Well, 200 was taken out of the tips for credit card processing of the hunt , or We havent got paid from that hunt yet. On the day that I quit three hunters that were leaving mentioned tha...

Weekly migratory bird hunting reports are posted from early September through early February. High Plains Mallard Management Unit Strong numbers of geese remain on Lake Etter and other watering sources near Spearman, but roosting sources remain a premium with drought conditions. Unseasonably mild conditions have encouraged geese to sit longer on roost ponds. Lubbock hunters have scored fair to good shoots over plowed ground. Sandhill crane hunting has been fair for decoying action. Duck hunting has been fair to good on playas and feed lots, though hunter participation has waned. Duck season ends at sunset Jan. 29. Goose season runs through Feb. 5. Prospects are fair to good. North Zone Duck Duck season closes at sunset Jan. 29. Fair to good hunts were posted around Franklin, Navasota and Crockett. Hunter participation has been minimal with mild conditions and poor duck numbers. Biologist Jared Laing said strange weather seems to have moved birds. Previously productive areas like...

I love to hunt anything that s legal, especially ducks, geese, deer, and turkeys. I m also a big bass fisherman, but I never turn down a chance at some catfish or crappie. If anyone knows of some public spots around Austin, or if anyone hunts or fishes around there and is looking for a new hunting buddy, email me. Thanks.

Weekly migratory bird hunting reports are posted from early September through early February. High Plains Mallard Management Unit Excellent decoying action for Canada geese has been reported throughout the week. What had the looks of a lackluster season at best with drought conditions persisting has turned in to a solid season of hunting according to outfitters. However, the bleak forecast has affected hunter participation. Best hunts have come over corn and wheat. Larger Canada geese have moved in to Texas with freezing temperatures to the north. Duck hunting has been fair to good with recent precipitation, but few hunters have taken advantage. Canada goose hunting remains solid near Knox City, but ducks there have been iffy. Prospects are fair to good. North Zone Duck The region received needed rain early this week that helped hunting in backwater sloughs and bayous. Wood ducks have been good in wet sloughs and bayous. Divers, including scaup, ringed necks, canvasbacks and a f...

Weekly migratory bird hunting reports are posted from early September through early February. High Plains Mallard Management Unit Outfitters reported fair to good hunts for ducks on playa lakes and feed lots. Ducks have congregated on warmer feed lot ponds with freezing temperatures. Goose hunting has been good over wheat and plow ground. Snow the past few weeks has encouraged Canadas to feed and lose some of their late season wariness. Larger Canadas have shown recently with freezing temperatures to the north. Snow geese have cooperated at times, mostly with stiff winds and a low ceiling. Some runoff from snow has filled playas, but wet playas remain a premium. Prospects are fair to good. North Zone Duck Duck hunters have taken good numbers of mallards in sloughs, creeks and river bottoms. Colder weather and frozen waterways to the north have encouraged more mallards to cross the state line. Most of Northeast Texas have received good rains the past two weeks, but overall, preci...
