Good Hog Caliber...243

My dad and brother are coming to Texas in April for a hog hunt and want to know what the best calibers are. My dad has a .243 that he would like to use, but that seems a little light to me. The hunt will most likely be for meat hogs, 150 lbs or less. I will probably use a .308 or 30 06. What are your suggestions Thanks

The Contest Duckwhacker and Wingdinger Want to Take YOU Duck Hunting

After Duckwhacker and Wingdinger had such a traumatic and surreal experience, they were able to let it resonate how thankful they both were for what they have Family, each other, and many hunting opportunities that most people are not as fortunate to experience. When Duckwhacker found out he was the Best Story Winner he sent me an email with a very unique proposal for our community here at TexasHuntFish.com. He wanted to give his rewards to the winner of a little CONTEST. Read Duckwhacker s Contest Rules Carefully... 1. People write in a small essay as to why they want to go on a duckhunt with Wingdinger and me at our duck lease. The essay should include some background on the individual as well as their thoughts or motivations to go out on a duck hunt. Whether it is to learn about duck hunting or even if they are a pro, and just want to try hunting someplace else. 2. Wingdinger and I judge the winner. The hunt can take place in December or Jan. We basically make the call ...

I just recently bought a 5 acre parcel long rectangle of land in west texas ward county about 100 feet away from the pecos river north of pecos . My fiance and I wanted a place to call home base away from home, so if we hike scout hunt etc we have a place to shower sleep camp, basically just enjoy the outdoors and get away from big city living. With the 5 acres of land I was reading in this site others ideas and suggestions for small acre food plots feeders and water guzzlers. Currenty we have a plan to plant buffalo grass on the far end roughly 3 4 an acre and put a few 250lb capacity ground feeders that we will stock with corn. Also we plan to put in a few salt licks or mineral licks in that are. I m not really to sure if we will need water guzzlers that close to the river but the budget will allow if it actually helps the wildlife. I m new to all of this and need some help or suggestions to get this area more deer friendly for hunting and wildlife photos her hobby . I rea...

In a moment of shameless self promotion I felt it necessary to let all of you know that I am now engaged. I popped the question at the new Dallas Cowboy stadium during George Strait s Check Yes Or No . She said yes. I also stake claim to being the first person ever to propose at the new stadium. We will probably do a small wedding with just ourselves but we will have a huge party to celebrate. Texashuntfish members, personal friends, my Facebook friends and people I hunt with are automatically invited. Relatives by invitation only....

CROSSBOWS OR COMPOUNDS WHY NOT BOTH

With the signing of HB 968 by Gov. Perry, Texas passed a new law allowing crossbows to be used during archery season in 254 Texas counties. Grayson County is the exception, only conventional archery equipment longbows, recurves and compounds will be allowed here. Previously hunters could only hunt with longbows, recurves or compound bows during their special season, which opens before the general firearms whitetail season, crossbows were legal but only during the firearms season. I m amazed at the controversy that s occurred over the passing of this new law. Being a long time bowhunter and on the pro staff of the largest bow manufacturer in the county, I have a pretty good feel for the pulse of the bowhunter. Until this autumn, we had the woods all to ourselves for a month BEFORE we were joined by rifle hunters. This tradition in Texas is shared by hunters from all the other states with the exception of Pennsylvania and Michigan, where crossbows are legal during archery season...

World Record Exotic Taken in Kerr County A Client of the Texas Hunt Lodge, a Hunt Package provider near Kerrville, TX, took the new World Record Yak, last Monday, February 16 th . E. Tay Bond and his wife, Stacey, of Conroe, Tx booked the hunt with Guide and Texas Hunt Lodge owner, Aaron Bulkley, back in early February. The hunt took place on the Las Catarinas Ranch in northwest Kerr County off of Hwy 83. The World Record Yak Hunt was exciting for everyone involved. E. Tay Bond was guided by Aaron Bulkley and the ranch owner, J.A. Whittenburg V. Just the morning of the hunt, Bond at the last minute, decided to hunt the Yak with a Crossbow rather than Rifle which he brought along for the trip. He sighted in, and shot for the 1 st time, the Horton 175 Legacy bow just an hour before the hunt began, and once he hit bulls eye on his first two practice shots, he knew his and the Yak s destiny for that day. The hunt started around 10 00am Mond...
