I received these photos and story that I wanted to share with everyone. I can not verify the story, but regardless of a new world record, this is a big pig New World Record Weiser Weight Tusk Free Range Boar 885 Points, 630 lbs Here is the story Justin was called by a friend about a hog that was in a pasture. He estimated that it was 300lbs. Justin gathered his dogs and drove out alone. After setting out the first two dogs, Lady and Winter, it wasn t long until they were on the trail. Justin heard Lady trying to catch and set Sally catch dog loose. Justin wasn t prepared for what he was about to encounter. As he came around the corner, Sally was being thrown through a fence, and Lady was tossed up 4 foot in the air. Then he went from trying to catch the hog to trying to save his dogs. After several stitches and 15 staples to Lady, Justin went to work and gathered more guys and dogs. And something more than a pair of hobbles Later that night after much plann...

H.B. 968 Allowing Crossbows During Archery Season

The following email was sent to me by Wendy White to give everyone another perspective of the HB 968. It passed the Senate yesterday with a 31 1 vote. We spoke before the senate committee the week before and it passed with a 4 1 vote and the 1 was someone that came in at the last and replaced another committee member. LSBA lobbied those senators hard too. Only 3 persons showed on the opposition and one chose not to speak. The two who did speak were the current president of the LSBA, and the past president. Their testimony was based off of non facts or truths so they weren t taken seriously. Comment pertained to crossbows shooting game at 100 yards, which is not the truth. Then the other part of the testimony pertained to the PSE Tac 15 which isn t even on the market. It s a bastard weapon which consists of an AR 15 lower end, and so far, in the Crossbow community here in the USA, there isn t any interest in it. There is some interest in Italy, but would have to get a permit since i...

There is such a difference in the hunt depending on which exotic species and the type of ranch

Do you agree that the type of hunt changes dramatically depending on the species and ranch type For example, this Red Stag could careless about me taking this photo. Regardless of method, other than running up with a spear, it doesn t seem like much of a hunt. I think a number of factors cause this, and if you are looking to hunt exotics in Texas, you might want to consider these items before you select a guide or lease. 1. Species. Any species can be conditioned to not bolt at the sound, sight or smell of humans. However, some species are more skittish than others by nature. A bison most likely isn t going to do much but look at you because you are not a threat in its daily life. Fallow seem to be very tolerant of close encounters. Aoudad and Axis are commonly quick to depart, but easily become conditioned in my experience. 2. Size of Ranch. It seems to be hard to keep your exotics wild if the ranch is less than 1500 acres, assuming it is high fenced and you have year around...

The TexasHuntFish.com Staff met to discuss the Reward Points System and propose changes for 2008. We started this contest as a fun way to encourage everyone to create a stronger community of hunters and anglers who are willing to share their knowledge and help each other. As we reviewed the Top 100 Members , we realized that some of the current point values do not fairly reflect our focus on quality hunting and fishing content. It s easy to go through and make one word comments or to click a star to rate an image, but it is so much more valuable to be a member who contributes and initiates good content on the site. We will continue to recognize the Most Points Winner each month, and give that person a 100 gift card. Please note A member cannot win the Top Points Winner Gift Card 2 months in a row. Rather than give monthly gift cards to only three people each month, we thought it would be a great idea to organize a series of group trips this year. We would love to ...

Update your listing if you are a Hunting Guide or Fishing Guide

Forward this page to your favorite hunting or fishing guide. TexasHuntFish.com has between 150 and 200 people a day searching for Texas Hunting Guides and Texas Fishing Guides. If you are not being contacted, there are steps you need to take that will increase your business. We want to encourage you to update your listing in the FIND A GUIDE OR LEASE section on TexasHuntFish.com by adding the most current content and uploading photos. There are many guide services who have realized that by doing this, they are increasing their chances of showing up in the search results. Not only does your listing move to the top when you edit it, but the more information you include about which species you hunt, what parts of Texas you guide in, and what the prices are for certain hunts, all adds to the probability of your listing showing up when someone searches for the type of guide they are looking for. If you have any questions or need help with how to best utilize the website, ...

State Comptrollers office is making an effort to collect Hotel and Occupancy taxes on all HUNTS from June 2004 through June 2008

Recently the State Comptrollers office has been sending letters to anybody who provides hunting and or fishing guide services in an effort to collect Hotel and Occupancy taxes on all hunts from June 2004 through June 2008. What this means is that all hunting ranches that offer overnight accommodations for their hunters as well as food services must pay a hotel tax to the state of Texas on the lodging portion and a sales tax on all food served during a package hunt. The letters sent out set a deadline of July 28 to pay any back taxes or severe penalty will be incurred. According to the comptrollers office taxes will have to be paid for the services whether you actually charge for the service or not. If lodging was included in a package hunt, but was not itemized on the receipt, a tax would have to be paid on the total amount. If the lodging meals were listed separately, then a tax would have to be paid only on them. There are also side effects that could result in th...

As some of you may notice, there were some changes to the site over the weekend. 1. We introduced a new way to search for hunting and fishing guides and leases. The link is at the top of the screen, called Find a Guide or Lease. We would love to hear your feedback, questions and comments. 2. We made some changes to the Calendar to make it easier to post an event that you want other members to know about. 3. From a technical infrastructure perspective, we made a significant change to how things work and the ease by which we manage the site. We are very excited by the prospect that no matter how large the site gets, the current system can scale, monitor, and adapt with great power and ease. 4. Also, notice the Sign Up for the Newsletter at the top left of every page, and the Sign Up to get a free sticker at the bottom left of every page. 5. We have a list of items for our next release, but we would also love to hear from our Members if there is something you would like to see a...
