Dilley Dove Hunt

Went over to Dilley Monday to hunt doves. It started out bad nothing was going right for me and I just couldn t hit a thing. To top it all off had a flat tire late in the day out in the dove field. I had planned to go over to Rockport for a duck hunt for Tuesday but could not find anyone to fix the flat so I stayed in Dilley and hunted dove again yesterday AM. Man am I glad I did..... Limited out in about 1 1 2 hour. Doves everywhere. The red dirt peanut fields were full of hunters. It sounded like a war out there at times. Dawg had an outstanding time as well. Found every bird that I shot and also retrieved one for another hunter as well. After all the shooting was done, she found two birds that had been lost by others that had been down for over an hour in tall sage grass. She slept all the way from Dilley to Katy and is asleep now too Probably dreaming of retrieving doves. LOL I have enjoyed dove hunting more the past two or three years than I ever have. Gu...

Hello...again

Welcome to Texas, Hercdriver. Think we corresponded on another board some time ago. You are in hog heaven down in Corpus. Close to good deer, hog, duck, turkey and quail hunting. Plus some outstanding saltwater fishing as well. Do some varmint hunting in Three Rivers as well. I go to Rockport every year to hunt ducks. Get a guy to drop me off on an island and pick me up a few hours later. The dawg and I have a blast out there. I usually go over to Dilley about 1 1 2 hours from Corpus to dove hunt maybe the best in the USA. Let me know when you want to go.

Brownsville Duck Hunting

First of all, welcome to Texas and welcome to this board. Both are friendly places to hang around. I really like to hunt just north of corpus Christi around Rockport. Have been successful with Goldeneye Hunts. there are several guides that can take you out for Redheads, Gadwalls, Pintails and teal. The ducks migrate down near S Padre Island but have never been past the coastal bend myself. There is good hunting down in Mexico where the limits are more liberal than here in Texas. I will check a couple of websites and get back to you here with some more sources. Good hunting Jim

Ike I lived in LR for two years and really enjoyed it there. It will take a while but you ll find some good hunting down there. A lot of gamey country with a lot of hunters. Suggest you think about duck hunting. I used to go down near Tichner the place is thick with ducks. p.s. Have been watching a lot of Deadwood on HBO. It is fantastic, but wondering how authentic it is. Any comments

Two good days of wingshooting

I got in the truck Wednesday evening and headed to Dilley. Got up early Thursday morning and hit the fields. The doves were flying and I was shooting, but not a whole lot were dropping. Well I did limit out and did get the last three birds I shot at so it ended up better than it started. I dusted a couple so bad that feathers filled the air and almost knocked one in half. Also had the longest shot I ever took at a dove. It must have been close to 60 yards. Dog went about 100 yards on the retrieve. Got back in the truck and headed over to Rockport for some quacker shooting. Dusty slept the whole way over there and it was well deserved because she did a lot of running that day. Dilley is about as good a place as there is in the US to hunt doves. Got in the room that night and was checking to make sure the choke tube was ok for lead and found that I had been shooting a full choke all day. That explains the long shot and the dusting of a few doves. Also made sure I wasn t ...
