AmeriCorps workers cleaning out clogged culverts, building wind rows, and doing some great work. Yes, you can still got camping and hiking in some areas of the park. It s a good idea to call the park 512 321 2101 or check the website www.tpwd.state.tx.us before you visit.

Is Your Deer Hunting Lease Reaching Its Full Potential By Jeremy Flinn Buckscore Wildlife Biologist Each year deer hunters invest millions of dollars into hunting lease properties, including food plot planting, constructing deer stands, and especially putting gas into our tanks. A large portion of hunt clubs in the South lease their land from industrial timber companies. Nearly 85 of those white tailed deer leases practice some form of Trophy or Quality Deer Management QDM . But at the end of the season, after all the hard work and hunting hours are through, is your deer hunting lease really becoming the deer hunting mecca you dreamed of It was a hot July day as we walked through the pine stand. Last year s thinning had allowed much more sunlight to reach the ground, in turn sparking the growth of natural deer food. We headed out to a large food plot opening in which the club had called Centerfield because of its location on the property. Large, umbrella shaped weeds t...

Camo Patterns for Each Ecoregion in Texas

Texas has such a wide variety of ecoregions that one camouflage pattern will not work for all habitats. Within each region, the appearance of terrain and vegetation varies greatly with the season and topography. The following are some designs that blend effectively with different environments across the state. East Texas Woodlands In this region, the Realtree Hardwoods HD camouflage is a great choice for hunting the deep and often dark forests. Texas Gulf Coastal Wetlands During fall and winter, the marsh grasses and croplands are best imitated with Advantage Wetlands. South Texas Brush Country Brush Country, a company in Bryan, Texas, makes a design that synthesizes the dappled appearance of green mesquite and white thorn branches. West Texas Rangelands The Mossy Oak Brush uses an abstract background of dirt and dead grasses with foregrounds inspired by dried brush. High Plains Prairies The Prairie Ghost Ultimate pattern is intended for sagebrush country. Central Tex...

Does Hunting Deer With A Silencer Matter To You

I ve been thinking about this proposed regulation that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is considering allow hunters to use silencers and sound suppressors on rifles to hunt deer. I m not sure how I feel about it. I already use a silenced firearm for whitetails. It s called a bow. The real discussion is about rifles altered so that the sound is mostly silenced or suppressed. None of the silencers I m familiar with are totally silent. And all of them compromise the speed and power of the bullet. When you fire a rifle, the bullet leaves the barrel at something in excess of 1,100 feet per second faster than the speed of sound. That crack you hear is basically a small sonic boom. To eliminate that portion of the noise, the velocity of the bullet has to be reduced within the gun, and that impacts the hunter s effective range. It s a matter of physics. The proposal that Texas Parks and Wildlife commissioners have sent to the Texas Register for public comment actu...

Obama and company may have found a way to worm around our right to own guns. I recieved this e main this morning, PLEASE READ WHO IS BUYING GUN MANUFACTURES E mail as follows SOMETHING YOU MAY NOT KNOW THAT IS HAPPENING WHO IS BUYING COMPANIES MANUFACTURING GUNS For the last several years a company called THE FREEDOM GROUP has been quietly buying up gun and ammunition manufacturers. Some of the companies are Bushmaster , Marlin , Remington , DPMS , Dakota Arms and H R. Some people worry that this Freedom Group is going to control most of the firearms companies in the United States. If you control the manufacturers you can deside to STOP selling to civilians. What a perfect way to control guns. Now if you do some digging you will see that The Freedom Group is OWNED BY A COMPANY CALLED CERBERUS CAPITOL MANAGEMENT. Guess who controls Cerberus GEORGE SOROS One of the most evil men on this planet who wants to restrict or ban all civilian guns. Please...
