DCNF opening day success

Hey everyone, it s been a long time since I ve signed in here on the forum. I hope everyone is doing well. I wanted to post a photo of my buddies buck which was shot in the Davy Crockett National Forest on Opening Day evening hunt. The buck is a great 8 pt and weighed in the 170lb range. We saw a total of 9 bucks of this caliber that were shot opening day. We saw alot of deer over the weekend while hunting and the ducks were everywhere. We are already planning a trip back to the Big Slough Wilderness Area for a combo deer duck hunt. Enjoy the photos.

Brother finally connected.

My brother, Donny and son Riley and I went hunting again at the lease in Leander on Sunday evening. I say a nice trophy white house cat, an 8 pt and 3 doe but couldnt get a shot at the doe. Donny saw some small bucks and some doe out of range. Riley didn t see anything. My brother was the lucky one and shot a nice doe. He nicked the heart on the shot but it was amazing that the deer ran about 150 yards before expiring. Needless to say he is pumped and ready to stick one of the nice bucks we see in the trail cam pics. Here is a pic of the doe.

Antler Pics

I love finding sheds, kinda like a bonus. Very cool, hope you find another one of those big East Texas bucks to chase this fall. I will be in your neck of the woods for rifle opener...my brother and I will be hunting the DCNF. We are taking off early Friday morning before opener to get a decent camping spot and maybe scout the Big Slough Wilderness area for some of those big East Texas swamp bucks. We will be camping at the camp off of HWY 21. We plan on doing some rattling and filming, hope we get lucky...pray for cold weather. A buddy I hunt with was hunting the DCNF bow season 1998 and shot a nice 8 pt that went 126 and is in P Y. He found one of the bucks sheds while he was tracking the buck after the shot and the buck would have been bigger the previous year. There was a drought in East Texas that year so the deer didn t get the same nutrition.

I want some meat so something has to expire. I will hope to see one of the good bucks from the pictures but a nice fat doe would do just fine this early in the season.

I m ready to rock. We have 2 new bucks on camera last weekend so now with the new regulation there are 5 shooters coming into the feeders. I can hardley wait myself. I will be leaving the house around 5am, just a 15 min drive and a 5 min walk should put me on the stand at just the right time. I like to have 45 min to an hour of sitting on stand before daylight so things can settle down. Good Luck to everybody.
