Thoughts on a Deer Lease.

I am just tossing this out here to get some feed back, positive or negative. Keep in mind during this ramble, I am just talking about a deer lease that would be thru both archery and gun seasons, there are feral hogs frequenting the place, and it is low fenced. 150 to 170 class bucks are taken yearly in the area the property is located in. I have been in on deer leases before, and enjoyed all of the work involved in getting blinds built and feders set up and running, but I was also fortunate enough to have less than 100 miles one way to drive from home to the lease. In fact on the ones I was actually a paying member, it was 50 miles or less, home to lease. The one I hunted for free on Montague county for 13 seasons was 88 miles from my house, still close enough to make getting to it and back home in one day bearable. What I am looking at or thinking about however is the folks driving 100 miles to a lease. While I know one of the main attractions of a lease to many folks is...

Well, we put up a feeder last weekend and my brother went to the lease yesterday, the lease is just outside of Columbus and there has been no hunting on or around it... I didn t really expect to see any action yet front feeder in the field game trail and a mineral lick I put in stock tank, just dug a hole and filled with corn and spread some out looks like we have some potential no hogs on cams yet.. need to put out 2 more feeders considering we are in a drought and there has been no supplmental feeding, I think with some rain, corn, protein and mineral licks and careful management, we can have some decent bucks and I like to think there s a few really nice ones out there lurking in the shadows

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, My friend and I are looking to join a lease within 3 hours from DFW. We both are well seasoned hunters and enjoy the outdoors. We are very safety minded individuals. We are looking to spend up too 1500.00 a gun but will entertain the thought of paying more if the lease is well worth it. Below is a list of the main things we are looking for in a lease. Wife s and children allowed. Long term lease oportunities Would like sleeping quarters on site but not a must. Water and electric if possible Down to earth easy to get along hunting party. and of coarse abundance and variety of game animals, do not want to get on a lease that has been over hunted. A good acreage to hunter ratio. seen a few leases out there that are putting 6 hunters on 300 acres A little about us We are a couple of down to earth, fun, easy going individuals not afraid of work. We would be more than happy to lend a hand working around the Ranch, both to improve the hunting g...

Good News, Bad News

Texas Deer Hunting Season ends today except for Doe Spike Season in 30 South Texas counties. Bad News Neither of my three kids asked to go hunting with me this season. School, sports, scouts and family dominated the last 90 days. Breaking my ribs the week before archery season did little to help. It is hard to draw a recurve, fill a feeder, ride an ATV, or clean a deer with broken healing ribs. Good News The buck doe ratio on our land in East Texas and in the Hill Country has not been higher in my lifetime. We saw the largest bucks in many years in both areas, and the most number of individual bucks. There are three mature trophy bucks than should be even better next year, two of which have never been seen before until this season. The wonders of whitetail.
