Next leg of the guiding tour is the world famous Tecomate Ranch. John Carey and his band of outlaws from St. Louis are an annual event here at the Tecomate. Total of six bucks were taken with John s 167 main framed 11 point leading the way. Just an incredible group of hunters and always one of the fun hunts of the year. Thanks and Good Hunting.
New Trail Cam and I Love it

These are from the first setting of the new Reconx RC 55 camera. I love the widescreen view and image quality. I set the camera a little close and have since moved it back, but I am impressed. Thank you David and Bucks of Tecomate for sharing these with me. Reconx is the new trail cam sponsor of the Bucks of Tecomate Television series. I ve attached two IR and two daylight photos, and will post more as I get my distance from target figured out. Let me know what you guys think.

January El Cazador Ranch Hunt

Another fantastic hunt at El Cazador Ranch is in the books. Great group of guys and some great bucks. First pic is of Tim Shirah and I with his upper 150 s 7 1 2 year old 10 point and just an ancient buck we nicknamed The Camel . We think we have video of this buck being wounded by Jeff Foxworthy 8 years ago and his estimated age at that time was 5 1 2. That would put him at 13 1 2. No matter, he s the oldest looking buck I ve ever seen, and a testiment to good management. Next is of Larry Johnston and his two gorgeous 10 points. The buck on the left is in the upper 140 s and on the right an upper 150 s. Bob Clarkson had never hunted, much less taken a whitetail. We have a new passionate hunter in our midst now after he bagged his 130 s class buck. A 130 s 8 point with a broken G3 and a 140 inch 10 point were perfect for Don. Finally, Rans Thomas scored on the last morning with his beautiful main framed 11 that pushed 150. There s nothing like El Cazador Good Hunting H...

Our friends Monroe, Clark and Jim Rogers joined us for a very special hunt over the past three days. We re so glad we were able to get them down here on quick notice. Thank you guys for letting us be a small part of it. Congratulations to Jim on his two beautiful bucks, a 130 s 8 point and a mid 140 s 10 point. Both bucks were ancient old brutes, probably 8 1 2 . Good Hunting Hardy

Finished up another great hunt the other day with Jim Hardy, Jeffrey Hardy, William Davis and Will Davis. Next is Will Don t worry about me Son Davis with his 140 s class main framed 10 point with burr points Will called them bulldog catchers Didn t know they were breed specific. How bout those brow tines Jim GIT Hardy with tall tight 140 s class 9 point. Thanks Jim for another great year. Great job at self guiding.
Do you Rattle

So how you do you feel about Rattling How much of it do you do How does it work in your area and when There s not much more exciting in the south Texas brush than rattling around the rut. You re almost assured of some type of response. As a photographer it s challenging and potentially very rewarding. As a hunter guide it can be equally as rewarding and exciting, but it takes discipline to hold off on the aggressive young bucks that are what come running in 90 of the time. The attached photo is of a great buck that I rattled in last year. However, I had no idea he was there until I stood up. While several young bucks came busting in to my setup, it was only after I had given up and hadn t rattled for a good 30 minutes that I got up to stare face to face with this mature beast that had been sneaking in through the brush. In my limited experience, this is the norm for many of the mature bucks. It s always important to be ready for anything when you decide to leave and move to anoth...
