Hey guys, Ime looking for a higher powered scope sometime after Xmas. Ive kinda narrowed it down to these brands. Nikon, Alpen, Burris and Leupold. Im looking for something in the 4x12x40 to 4x16x50 range, something in that category. Their are lots of options with in these brands. Im looking to spend no more than 400 and Ill probably use ebay to buy it as I have found several VXIII Leupolds on there for around 400 bucks. But what do you think about the Nikon Monarch scopes, I like the BDC recticle. The Alpen scopes get good reviews and the Burris seem to be pretty affordable quality as well. Thanks in advance guys, if you know of something Im overlooking let me know Ill tell you straight up, I cant affored Swaroski, Khales or Zeiss, although I wish I could SO please dont tell me Im dumb for buying something other than those. Im tired of hearing that for those with unlimited bedgets, no kids and no wife Unfortunately I have all 3 Thanks DannyG

Got this story and photo in an email from a friend. Loaded up and headed South of San Antonio to the ranch for a day of feeder filling and beverage drinking...maybe even tell a lie or two. I had brought along the bow because there are always hogs...always And why not get a little practice in with my new Z7 Extreme. So we get to the ranch unload our things and crack open a beverage... man it was HOT Cold drink was soooooo good and we had not filled the first feeder. okay, so we are not really filling the feeders. just more like checking to make sure they are being filled...... But it was still HOT After several more beverages and confirmation that the first 7 feeders were being filled adn we had watched tons of turkey and quail, i decided the next feeder we hit I was gonna walk to the near by tank and see if I could catch a hog laying on the edge in a wallow. Usually we see pigs and Javi s all over when we are driving around but today was hot and they were not on t...

Talked to a friend who hunts near Post Texas. A fellow hunter last weekend took a buck with bow. 5.5in base 4in mid beams 12pts. 25in inside spread. He shot a doe at 20yrds and this buck came out and stood by her until he was shot and ran 60yrds. He is going to have him scored. Also everyone on the lease reported the bucks runnin does and fighting. Looks like this will be a great year for large bucks, if I ever have time to get to the lease. The rain this year is great for the deer, but really hurts my construction business.

New Tricks for an Old Dog BCM takes the SAAMs course at the FTW Ranch By Lamar Smith Edited Co written with E Craig Smith To give yourself the best possible chance of playing to your potential, you must prepare for every eventuality. That means practice, said golfing great, Seve Ballesteros. If you give it serious thought, how many factors can you list that will change the point of impact of your shot Wind, temperature, terrain, caliber, distance are just a few of the elements in a host of game changers. Serious hunters who have a true respect for their sport, as well as the game they seek, know that honing their skills and staying proficient with their weapons is critical to success. With d eer season down the road, Spring turkey behind us and a choking drought looming large, what were your Brush Country Monsters host and producer suppose to do Yep. Practice what we preach and keep sharp. Regardless of your weapon of choice, be it the bo...

Axis Hunting Story

A few years ago I was in some prime axis habitat in Texas in early June. I ve learned over the years that stalking axis deer is a superior way to hunt them than hunting from a stand. Not only can you be more successful that way, but it is a LOT MORE FUN So there I was, crack of dawn, waiting for the KHEEEEooOOeeWWWWWW bellow of a mature axis buck. They yell out like this 3 4 times, with a couple second intervals between each bellow. It is a challenge to other males, much like an elk bugle. And then I heard one...And then another...And another... The beauty here is that when you here the bellow, you know you re dealing with an older breeding age axis. They can rut any time of the year, and mate at any time of the year. But about 70 of them rut during June July, so you get this hot period with lots of rutting activity around then. It is hot hunting but it is worth it. And only the competitive breeders bellow i.e. big studs. You can hear them from a mile away if they...
