January El Cazador Ranch Hunt

Another fantastic hunt at El Cazador Ranch is in the books. Great group of guys and some great bucks. First pic is of Tim Shirah and I with his upper 150 s 7 1 2 year old 10 point and just an ancient buck we nicknamed The Camel . We think we have video of this buck being wounded by Jeff Foxworthy 8 years ago and his estimated age at that time was 5 1 2. That would put him at 13 1 2. No matter, he s the oldest looking buck I ve ever seen, and a testiment to good management. Next is of Larry Johnston and his two gorgeous 10 points. The buck on the left is in the upper 140 s and on the right an upper 150 s. Bob Clarkson had never hunted, much less taken a whitetail. We have a new passionate hunter in our midst now after he bagged his 130 s class buck. A 130 s 8 point with a broken G3 and a 140 inch 10 point were perfect for Don. Finally, Rans Thomas scored on the last morning with his beautiful main framed 11 that pushed 150. There s nothing like El Cazador Good Hunting H...

Because sometimes we all need a little help...

As hard as we try and as careful as we are, sometimes it just happens. We make a bad shot. It s at times like these that it is SO handy to have friends like Steve and Shane. We all want to to whatever it takes to recover our game. It s the right thing to do...the ethical thing. Tonight we had a buck shot low. A broken front leg although we weren t certain at the time . After realizing that a killing shot had not been made, we pulled back so that we did not jump the wounded buck. I then called our good friends Steve and Scott with their dogs, TD, Smokey and Blue Boy. About an hour later they showed up and we went out to try and retrieve the buck. After a short track, the buck was jumped, bayed and taken care of much to the relief of the hunter and yours truly. Congrats to the dogs, Scott and Steve, and the hunter for making the right call and hiring them to come out to secure his game.

Finished up another great hunt the other day with Jim Hardy, Jeffrey Hardy, William Davis and Will Davis. My 5th year hunting with the Hardy Boys , and second with William and Will. Everyone scored on good looking bucks and we even threw in a little late season dove hunting that was second to none. Can t wait to do it again next year. More pics to come First pic is of Jeffrey Hardy with his 4 1 2 year old cull 8, and 140 inch, 6 1 2 year old 10 point. Jeffrey and I always try to throw in a cull buck and this year we scored on a great one. Next is Will Don t worry about me Son Davis with his 140 s class main framed 10 point with burr points Will called them bulldog catchers Didn t know they were breed specific. How bout those brow tines Jim GIT Hardy with tall tight 140 s class 9 point. Thanks Jim for another great year. Great job at self guiding.
Early December Hunt at Campos Viejos

December 1st brought in a group of first time hunters to Campos Viejos. What a great bunch of guys hunting together for all the right reasons. First pic is of Danny s brute of a 130 s 8 point. Second is of Tim s incredible 150 s main framed 10 point with stickers. Next is Harold with his very symmetrical 140 inch 10 point. Steve The Rifleman is next with his 130 s class 8 point. Last but most importantly is Buck with his last afternoon 245 lb. upper 130 s 9 point. Hunts are always special for a variety of reasons. I really appreciate this group for letting me be a small part of a hunt that I will never forget. Can t wait to see everyone again next year. Good Hunting

2nd Annual Taylor Family Hunt at Campos Viejos

We were so happy to welcome back the Taylor family and Scott Davis for their second trip to Campos Viejos this week. What a great group of guys and what an incredibly fun hunt. Scott Davis struck on day one with his bow arrowing his beautiful 140 8 point with guide Chris Sheppard. John Taylor also connected on the first afternoon at the very last moment of shooting light taking his 140 s 9 point on a food plot . Cal Taylor picked up the next two big boys taking his 140 s class 10 point on a food plot the following afternoon and his upper 140 s 9 a couple of mornings later. John then struck again with an awesome buck we deemed Big Nasty . An impossible buck to score in the field and nearly as hard to photograph. The picture doesn t do this 154 inch beast justice. It s just not fair to call the past 4 days work gentlemen. I enjoyed it thoroughly and can t wait to do it again next year. Hope you all had as much fun as I did. Good Hunting

El Cazador 14 point

David Morris 176 7 8 buck from his El Cazador Ranch this morning. David hunted long and hard this season, chasing two giants. One had been injured and wasn t what he expected him to be in this good year, and the other had broken up. He had hunted both for nearly a month per buck. Finally, he found a great deer. This old boy was 8 1 2 years old and had 40 inches of mass. What a fantastic buck and with years like this so rare, it was the perfect time to harvest him. Good Hunting. Hardy
