David Vance s Lake Fork Report

February is big Bass time here on Lake Fork. For all you fisherman that have been waiting for those big females to start moving to the shallows, now is the time. Lake Fork is about 6 feet low but still in great shape for another fantastic year of fishing in 2012. The fishing has been good for size the last few days. Numbers of quality Bass can be found starting to stage on the timbered secondary points and ditches, and creeks near spawning flats. Starting at the mouths of the creeks and working your way back is the best approach to locating pre spawn Bass this time of year. Dearing a cold front the Bass will be more active and concentrated on main lake and or secondary points. On warmer days, you will find that the bite is better at the very back of the creeks. Once you locate a fish or two it is good to make another pass back through the area as there will usually be several more in that location and come back and hit it again later in the day. Fishing in depths of 4 10 feet has be...

Does Hunting Deer With A Silencer Matter To You

I ve been thinking about this proposed regulation that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is considering allow hunters to use silencers and sound suppressors on rifles to hunt deer. I m not sure how I feel about it. I already use a silenced firearm for whitetails. It s called a bow. The real discussion is about rifles altered so that the sound is mostly silenced or suppressed. None of the silencers I m familiar with are totally silent. And all of them compromise the speed and power of the bullet. When you fire a rifle, the bullet leaves the barrel at something in excess of 1,100 feet per second faster than the speed of sound. That crack you hear is basically a small sonic boom. To eliminate that portion of the noise, the velocity of the bullet has to be reduced within the gun, and that impacts the hunter s effective range. It s a matter of physics. The proposal that Texas Parks and Wildlife commissioners have sent to the Texas Register for public comment actu...

Rapala And B.A.S.S. Challenge Anglers To Snap To It

.A.S.S. member Adam Tucker did it. Now B.A.S.S. LLC and Rapala are challenging other anglers to snap to it and enter the 2012 Rapala Photo Contest. For the best snapshot, a monthly winner will receive six Rapala lures and recognition in Bassmaster magazine. The photo must be of an angler with a bass caught on a Rapala lure. Fish size doesn t matter, but photo quality does, and the Rapala lure used to land the fish must be visible in the photo. B.A.S.S. judges will select the month s best submission based solely on those criteria. Hint make sure the digital camera is set to a fairly large file size because a tiny file can t be turned into a magazine photo. Entering is easy. Anglers need only to email their digital photos to facebook bassmaster.com with the subject line 2012 Rapala Photo Contest. Each month s winners will not only appear in the pages of Bassmaster, but also in the dedicated Rapala album that will soon go up on the B.A.S.S. Facebook page www.facebook.com ba...
