The Garmin Rhino 530 is one of my favorite tools to carry in the field. Not only is it a wonderful GPS, but it is also a 14 mile range (5 Watt) walkie talkie, NOAA weather radio, Solunar Table, Sunrise/Sunset Table, and when talking to other people carrying an integrated GPS/Radio from Garmin, you can see each other on the screen without having to break silence.

With the topographical software that costs extra, you can download a great map so that when you try to go from point A to point B, you can see a valley in the way and not waste time.

If the user interface is not good enough, with the click of a button you can view your past tracks, routes, and waypoints on Google Earth.

To finish the summary, you can backup and save all of your handheld work to your computer. After loosing my last GPS to a wiring failure, I am very happy to have this feature.

From a financial argument, if you were to buy each of these capabilities individually you would spend more money that the $399 it cost when I searched for "Garmin Rhino 530" on cabelas.com.

PS: If you have read our other Field Reports and Product Reviews, you have probably seen screen shots of our GPS tracks overlayed on Google. These screen shots were all produced using this product.
