I met Hart Stilwell at Earl Galceran's fishing camp near San Luis Pass back in the early 1950's. He was a celebrity among Texas sportsman at that time, and one of the first to write about the hunting and fishing in our state. A few years later I attended a Texas Parks and Wildlife hearing where Stilwell voiced our mutual concern about commercial netting and the potential for collapse of our recreational fisheries. Hart Stilwell was a fine sportsman and journalist and an early advocate of conservation in our state. This reprint of Hunting and Fishing in Texas reflects his passion for the Texas outdoors and his dedication to preserving our natural resources for future generations. I am honored that my artwork graces the cover of this book.
