Jackpot
Category: Native Animal

This is my first trophy deer.  I named him Jackpot because he has 13 points (lucky 13).  I took it on a 22,000 acre free range ranch in Roberts County at 6:00 PM Saturday, November 14, 2009.  Got him with a great lung shot form about 125 yards away with my Browning 270 WIN.  Didn't know how big he was until I found him and took this picture and had the camera flash light up his rack.  Couldn't find a blood trail, but was able to hear him crash down and take his last few deep breaths about 25 yard away from the shot.  Any questions about the hunt just ask!

What ranch did you take that deer off of?  I am very familiar with the area and am curious to know...

Awesome buck, Congrats! Have you had him scored?

-Jackpot was shot on the McMordie ranch just south of Canadian.  Do you know it?

--No, I have not had him scored, I just took him to get mounted and will have to wait 6-9 months to get him back then I will have him scored officially.  I have heard that he might go anywhere from 165-175, but we shall see.

---Thanks for the comments guys!

Yes, I know where the McMordie Ranch is.  Are you from Canadian or a surrounding town?  I work for an oil company and used to work that area.  I also went to Texas Tech and know a few people from Canadian and Miami.

No, I am from the Dallas area.  One of my best friends from college is a McMordie and he is kind enough to let a few of his good friends go up and hang out at the ranch.  We love it up there.  The McMordies are big Texas Tech supporters though.  I do know that.

Great panhandle Buck. I run 20,000 acres in the south central panhandle in The Palo Duro. Awesome deer there. You need to get your horns from your taxidermist and enter him in the Texas Big Game Awards. Even better your best buck Congrats

...interesting.  Tell me more about these awards you speak of.

Look up texasbiggameawards.com and it will explain how to do it. You can also go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife website and it will lead you to it. He would be entered in the Panhandle region and should do well. There should be some monsters killed in this region due to all the rain we got. You can find a scorer right here in the metroplex. Do you know your taxidermist real well? He can give you your horns untill it is time to put them on the form.

Very nice buck!  We are headed up next week to a place around Miami...  hope we have the same success!  Did anyone else in your group take a deer?

There were more deer this year than normal, and many more bucks (most were good 8's).  My hunting partner got a nice mature 8-point about 20 minutes before I got Jackpot.  The rain this year has helped from what I'm told, and the deer are in the rut up there right now which is alwas fun to watch.  Good luck on your hunt.  Write another comment and let me know how it goes.
